Change the Control Scheme

This is a suggestion for an improved control-scheme.
As a long-time player, I’ve always wanted this.
Map the damn weapons and grenades to the flippin d-pad.
Press Y to alternate/cycle d-pad options.

Okay. So you get 3 weapon slots and a grenade slot. Thats 4 buttons… okay?
Game fixed…
Press Y and the d-pad switches to 3 select-fire options and a secondary grenade option. That’s 3 weapons, select-fire for any weapon, and 4 grenade types.

This will be Halo 7’s control scheme.

I have no freaking clue what you’re talking about.

Personally I’d like to be able to choose my own buttons, and don’t get why I can’t. This feature was available on Street Fighter 2 on the SNES in the 1990s, but here in 2016 I have to choose a control scheme instead.

What do you not get? It’s so simple.
I want to have the weapons and grenades mapped to the d-pad.

You don’t have 3 weapons and a grenade, this isn’t GoW.

Use the “Xbox Accessories” app on your Xbox One to switch around any buttons you like. It should already be installed and you don’t need an Elite controller to be able to do it. Just be mindful this will change your buttons for menus and stuff too.

Regarding what OP is talking about, I have nothing against different control schemes, but allowing you to carry 3 weapons would dramatically change the game, I think for the worse. 4 grenade types? Sure, I loved the fire bombs from H3, bring those back!

Yes, I know that. I am requesting that we should be allowed up to 3 weapons, with select-fire, and as many as 4 grenade types. This can be achieved simply by mapping the weapons to the D-pad.

The Y button would function to cycle the D-pad options.

Sry. Accidental double posted.

That would completely change how halo plays. Select fire is useless because what are you gonna do? Single fire a BR? It’ll take 12 bullets to kill someone. Single fire an AR? Full auto a DMR?

Yeah just use accessories app

How would having 3 weapons hurt the game? Yes, it would dramatically change the game, but that is the point.

Yes, it would hurt the game.

True. I would only allow select-fire for precision weapons, which essentially every weapon, in my opinion, should have been since I first thought of this back when I played Halo 2…

Not every weapon needs select-fire. Only the UNSC automatics, which, as I said before about all weapons, should be precision weapons.

Basically, every UNSC weapon, even the nonsensical shotgun (shotguns are weird in Halo), should be automatic, precision weapons.

And you don’t think that will completely ruin any shred of balance we have in game?

Well, no, because the weapons would need to be fine-tuned for greater realism. All of this depends on the recoil and rate-of-fire of every gun, which would depend on the weight of the weapon, the kind of ammunition you’re using, and the length of the barrel.

DMR/BR/AR… in reality they are the same thing with aesthetic differences and slightly different ballistic performance due to miniscule differences in ammunition and muzzle velocity (everything to do with the length of the barrel).

Cheers guys, I know about that but I’d rather not change buttons for all games. IDK why we can’t just set up our own control schemes for Halo, it’d be far easier.

I think I’m just going to buy a controller with extra buttons, like the elite. It seems to give people a small advantage.

You aren’t just asking for a control change. You’re asking to dramatically alter this games dynamics…

I really dont think this would go well…

That would be nice for sure, and that’s exactly why I did buy an Elite controller. It’s super easy to set up profiles for different games and switch them on the fly. I use a different control scheme for gameplay/forge/theater, and that’s just Halo haha.

And my point is Halo shouldn’t be dramatically changed. They’ve already changed so much about how the game works. I like the majority of the changes but it’s clear many do not. Having to choose between only 2 weapons at a time is a huge part of Halo’s sandbox and balance. Changing something like that would do more to make it ‘not-Halo’ than any change they’ve ever done before (the inclusion of sprint, armor abilities, etc etc.) If you like games with those mechanics, that’s totally cool. I do to. But I play Halo because I want to play Halo, not those other games, and the two weapons mechanic is actually a huge part of what makes Halo, Halo.
