As of right now there are a lot of disscussions going on about Sprint and perks in Halo 4 . A lot of you do not like the idea of These changes and say Halo should return to the so called “Classic” feel of Halo 1,2,3 . These changes have many of us afraid that Classic Halo is gone forever . Let me point out that this is not the first major change between Halo titles .More changes where made from Halo CE to Halo 2 than any halo game . That is including from Halo 3 to Reach . Hyjacking,Duelwielding,No healthpacks are just some of the changes from Halo CE to Halo 2 . Here is the interesting thing that Classic halo feel you refer to that was in Halo 2 was a drasticly changed game from the original . Most I think will agree they liked the gameplay MP more from Halo 2 then Halo CE . The changes where aceppted and loved. How do we know the changes in Halo 4 will not be just as good ? The fact is that Classic Halo 2 itself is a massively changed variant of the Original . History can and I believe will repeat itself by bringing new great Gameplay elements just like Halo 2 did . Change is not always bad if there was no change in Halo then the Halo 2 we love would not have existed and it would have just been a copy of Halo CE .

CHANGE?.. no… this Halo not COD… wait… COD doesnt change… therefor Halo should changewhile still being halo
Halo 2’s changes were mostly bad, though. A useless, gimmicky dual-wield system, removal of non-regenerating health, addition of an easy-mode BR to replace the vastly superior M6D, the list goes on. The only thing Halo 2 really improved on gameplay-wise was how the vehicles worked, where they were much-more physics based in Halo 2, and vehicle speed affected splatter damage. Most people who think back and remember Halo 2 as the best competitive Halo are simply nostalgic, as MLG hadn’t really developed properly for CE. It was better as a casual Halo though, although the story wasn’t quite as good as the game before it.
I’m a big fan of change. I just don’t like change for the worse, and that’s what I’m hoping 343 doesn’t do.
I’m ready for change as long as it is good. If it is balanced I have no issue with it.
Change is sometimes a bad thing, think of Halo Reach.

You took the words out of my mouth… well, hands.

Get out.

I almost gave up on the halo community before I saw this post. Glad I’m not the only who remembers why halos awesome. I’ve noticed most the people who complain about change usually follow up by saying halo should go back to halo 3’s style of gameplay. So I’m guessing the majority of halo fans we have now started playing at halo 3. To be honest I’m disgusted with 343 for not bringing back dual wielding. I don’t wanna judge them from one trailer but if they seriously just make the next 3 halo’s completely br focused I’ll probably be done with halo.

I see where you’re coming from, but you aren’t looking into the topic of change deeply enough. Gameplay changes like what you’ve discussed with Hijacking, Dual wielding, no healthpacks, etc. were indeed changes to the genre from game to game. However, these changes applied to every single player and they had no choice but to embrace them. These changes kept Halo balanced because they applied to everyone. However, when we talk about changes such as perks in Halo, it’s a different story.
The perks aren’t the same for everyone. Each player has an option between several different loadouts, so the game becomes unbalanced. I could start with DMR and sprint when someone else could start with Shotgun and armor lock, and this just isn’t balanced. They both have their advantages in a scenario like Shotgun with armor lock is better for close quarters combat while DMR with Sprint is better for mobility and distance combat, but thats the issue. Halo has never been a game where players were unbalanced. Players were always balanced in Halo, at least during the times of Halo 1, 2, 3. Each player started with the exact same weapons and had the same chance of getting the power weapons on the map. But in Reach, you start with different abilities that introduce the “Randomness” factor and that takes away from the feel of Halo. This change just doesn’t flow well with what Halo is known for.
343 can make changes to Halo 4 and make the game amazing, as long as they retain the Halo legacy which is complete balance in multiplayer. If they break that legacy by introducing unfair advantages in different scenarios, people will complain because the game is no longer a traditional Halo game.

Thanks sir.

I wouldn’t be bothered in the changes were GOOD but look at Reach!
If it was a thread of improvement Halos hit rock bottom 2012.
There slogan for Halo 3 should of been “The rest is all down hill!”
Halo reach I believe tried to revolutionize Halo MP like Halo 2 did . Some liked the changes , It did not matter to some but there as we know was a large group that Hated the new MP .Halo 4 can revolutionize the Game for the best just like Halo 2 did if it did not make the mistakes of Reach .By the way the lead MP person for Halo 4 is the same one who did Halo 2 MP .
Please continue your disscusion on this iteresting topic .

You’re right, change isn’t always bad… But I still think Reach was a terrible change.

Ridiculous. Nearly all of Halo 2’s changes were for the better. Halo: CE was terrible in comparison.

Halo always brings in new and cool stuff whether it be maps, guns, and small features that are added to the game.
Reach just brought in too much. Im all for introducing new guns and what not, but bloom? Armor abilities? Getting rid of guns that were in the game for 2/3s of the storyline? (carbine/smg/dualwieldingfeature)? That’s stupid.
Armor lock and camo were the worst things they could implement into the game. The least they could have done is made them pickups. Armor abilities really did ruin Reach, as did most of the maps. The DMR was okay SOMETIMES but it being a mini sniper and overpowered against vehicles was not fair AT all.
Halo 1 didnt even have a real mp.
PC doesn’t count… Sorry.
Halo 2 made Xbox Live.
I never had a problem with the changes in the trilogy. Reach is the only halo game I have a problem with.
