Change for the sake of change

This will be my last thread about the logo change until the release of Halo 4.

My only major quarrel with 343 is that they changed some things just for the sake of change, and as we all know, change for the sake of change is the worst type of change, especially when its comes to re-imaginations, or established things like the appearance of Grunts, or Jackals, or Elites. One of these changes is the UNSC logo, and don’t bother asking me why something so little bothers me so much, I’m a very obsessive compulsive gamer, but there are real reasons as why someone would be a little mad 343 changed it, like if someone had a tattoo of the original UNSC logo, and I don’t know about you, but if I had it tattooed on me I would feel a little betrayed. The 2 reasons I dislike the change is 1. They changed something for no good reason, and don’t bring up the “the Human-Covenant war is over, things change” argument 2. In my opinion the new one belongs on the bottom of a skateboard, the original has a clean-cut military look to it. This is all I can really say, feel free to add to the list of unnecessary changes made by 343, but don’t complain about me complaining.

Oh, and sorry for taking the great topic name.

to be honest the new unsc logo looks a little more bad–Yoink- since the last one made them look like a UN military this one stands out a bit more

I agree completely. The UNSC logo was fine, it looked actually military. But this new one, it looks like a boy scouts club.

Yes, it is getting frustrating to see 343 continually change things for absolutely no reason. Mostly aesthetic wise.

Also, can you post a link to the new UNSC logo?

Isn’t that what forums are for? To discuss?

343i wants to make people understand that this is no longer a Bungie game changing a lot of things to make it feel more like what they have in mind for this Saga’s future.

Yes but the ‘change for the sake of change’ discussion is one I have seen in most threads of Covenant pictures(Mostly pertaining to grunts and jackals) and even have whole threads dedicated to the subject (like this one). I just feel like we should give it a rest and wait to see what the in game explanation is for each change.

Alright, I can somewhat understand why they would change it, but it feels like they just make us dinner and say “take it or leave it”, It would be nice if they asked us yes or no on some of the things they are changing. Remember, the customer is always right.

Well at least you apologized.

In life, the only constant is change. It’s inevitable. 343i has taken Halo, and is making it their own. They’re not changing it for the sake of change, they’re changing in order to keep Halo relevant and competitive. To achieve this, they need to innovate. We can all be the judge as to whether they’ve succeeded soon enough.

New emblem looks better, more ferocious.
it’s been what, 4 years since Halo 3? overdue for a change if you ask me, with all the new strides in technology there’s going to be changes in everything relating to the UNSC.

Agreed

Well that what you want it’ll just sound like a broken record then.

This is such an important issue. 343 has done many changes with Halo 4, but none so game breaking as changing the design of a logo. This is terrible news for all Halo fans. Halo will never be the same again.

Why change the logo? It serves no purpose with regards to gameplay. I understand 343i want to make Halo their own, but some of us have grown up with that logo as a symbol of one of our favourite games. It just seems a bit…petty. Like they’re saying “Hey ,look! Halo’s ours now and we can do whatever we want!”

Also, the new logo sucks. I’m sorry but it does. It looks like the type of god awful tattoo some gym-obsessed, hair-gelling idiot would get.

I feel the same way.

Not sure if sarcastic…

I, for one, am glad that 343 Industries are changing things for the sake of change. While I do love Bungie’s designs in past Halo games, keep in mind that we’ve been seeing them over and over again for over a decade. Having another whole decade of the same thing would get really stale, really fast.

Not only is 343 Industries making Halo their own, they are giving it a fresh and new look and feel. When I see the new UNSC logo, the new Warthog or the Pillar Unto Dawn, I smile since the universe will feel new and interesting again.

In fact, when I saw that they were reusing models from Reach for many vehicles and weapons, I found myself somewhat disappointed. I love how the new Warthog looks, how different yet so familiar it looks compared to the original. It’s a shame we couldn’t have the same thing happen to the Ghost, Mongoose or Scorpion.

However, they obviously won’t be able to reuse those assets in Halo 5, which will have a much higher bar for quality (even though Halo 4 looks amazing already), therefore they will have to create new models, textures, etc. Hopefully they will take that opportunity to change even more of the universe to fit their vision of it.

Remember people, this is no longer Bungie’s Halo, it’s 343 Industries’. The look of the game should definitely represent that.
