I played against Snipedown yesterday, he’s Champion 1 in 3 playlists, not surprisingly… However when I looked at his stats, he’s played 10-12 games TOTAL in the playlists he’s #1 in. How is this possible?!
This shows how flawed the “Champion” ranks are. I would expect the #1 person to have over 500+ wins in that playlist by now. How can you be #1 with only 10 games, and never be kicked from that spot from people grinding hardcore?
It’s not a knock on Snipedown at all, he’s Champion in all playlists, but #1 with only 10-12 games played? That’s ridiculous… The ranking system needs some serious tweaking.

It now takes into account your placement from last season and if I recall correctly (correct me if I’m wrong) he had champ 1 in those playlists last year, and he was SUPER dominant in his placement matches so that would explain why. Your average person won’t have that happen.
I’ve heard the suggestion that the highest anyone be able to rank out of their 10 placement matches is Onyx 1500. Then in order to actually make it up to champion, they have to grind it out playing games against other onyx/champions. I think that’s a pretty good idea and more in line with how ELO/CSR rankings work in other games.
Don’t have a dog in the fight personally (I’ll never get remotely close to champion), but I agree it seems silly to PLACE someone in champion after 10 matches. Should have to earn it.
If it takes into account last season, then why even have new “seasons”? No one should be placed directly into Champion. As it currently stands, you just have to get your placement matches done ASAP to get put into Champion which is ridiculous.
This is ranking system is so heavily flawed.
I dont care how dominant you are in 10 games, you shouldn’t be locked in to Champion 1 just because.

I mean I see the argument there, I’m still undecided. Like you I don’t have a dog in the fight because I’d be lucky to get Onyx let alone champion.
He is Snipedown ? Where should he be ranked?

I think OP’s point was to rank them all at Onyx and have them grind instead of being given Champ 1 right off the hop. Although I agree, it’s Snip3down lol.

He would be a Champion regardless, but to give someone Champ 1 after 10 games and “lock” them there is insane… There’s people who are grinding that playlist way more that should be #1.
11 games FFA and Champ 1 for the whole season? -Yoink-. That gives dedicated FFA players zero incentive to grind.
Even if people get put directly into Champion, my main point is that these players should have to grind pretty hardcore to sustain that Champion rank. A Champion 1 with 10-12 games total is ridiculous. As I said, there are players who probably have 500+ wins by now who are much more deserving of the title.
EVERYONE should have to grind for their rank. This current ranking system is just boring and doesn’t drive me to want to play better at all. The fact that you can play 10 games and be placed in the highest rank is ridiculous and takes all the prestige away from the max ranking. Plus the whole seasonal ranking reset just ruins the game for people who can’t play everyday but stil want to rise through the ranks.
Halo 3 had by far the best ranking system of any game ever based on my, and my friends opinion. It wasnt perfect but with a few tweaks I believe it could make a modern Halo super fun and addicting. The current overall spartan rank using numbers is horribly uninteresting. Screw lore and give us military rankings like in 3/Reach. Also give us armor unlocks based on rank to make the whole experiance more rewarding.
But I’m a nice guy so if there is a decent number of people who like the current ranking system, there could be 1 or 2 playlists that use the placement system. It could be a new gamemode called “Gauntlent” or something to go along with Warzone and Arena.
It is based on CSR during placement matches. Dominate a match against potential Plats, the game tries you out against potential Onyx players, if you destroy them as well, why would the game put you then in Diamond or Onyx? If by the time you get placed you have won 4 or 5 games against Champs, why would you stay in Onxy? It would only be logical to also place you in Champs.
I don’t have a problem with someone like snipedown qualifying at champ 1 but if they aren’t playing there should be some rank atrophy and they should get passed up by someone who is just as good and grinded up. This way you get ppl to stop the whole, “im gonna qualify and never play again until next season.”

This and if you completely destroyed everyone best 10 game stats against best players then why shouldn’t you be the Champion for that 30 Days.

This is exactly my point. At some point it needs to take into account how many games you’ve won, or are playing. Having a super duper high CSR for 10 games is fine, but that grind should continue.
Essentialy the game is saying people are THE BEST (# 1) player in playlists they don’t even play…which is so dumb
It’s skill based. The game thinks he’s the best in those Playlists based on his performance in those ten games. Makes sense to me.
Let me explain this differently.
The Golden State Warriors start off 11-0 in dominate fashion. The NBA decides to crown them NBA Champions for the whole season, they don’t even have to play another game.
The above scenario is exactly what is happening in this ranking system. How is that fair to the other 29 NBA teams? The other 29 teams have 0 incentive to continue playing that season. How can you crown the Warriors as NBA champions after the first 11 games? Because they won them all in dominate fashion? Who cares…They haven’t even grinded the rest of the season, playoffs, etc. It’s a long season, it shouldn’t be decided after 11 games.

I must say, well said good sir
They can lose that rank though. If they don’t play their score doesn’t increase and they can be surpassed. It’s not a lock (especially at lower champion levels.) While I will concede that it’s hard to lose champ when you’re champ 1 but It’s equally as sill to say “everyone is equal Onyx upon ranking” and then the first 5 games people take up all the high champ spots because they’re technically the highest ranked.

I don’t agree with all this but the bold part I do. I still think Halo 3 grind was so much better. I only feel like this ranking system works in FFA and if you ALWAYS play with the same group of four all the time.
As I’ve said, what if your just “ON” for the first 10 games and ranked much higher then what you are. You’ll just always bring your team down, which has happen to me. Or if your just “off” for the first 10 games, the your destroying everyone later and playing against people who are clearly worst then you. If makes no sense and resetting the ranks I think helps no one.
In halo 3, I played a A LOT of ranked games and rarely did I have blow out or one sided games. In halo 5 it happens a lot and I feel it’s because of the ranking system. Halo 3 had it right. You always played people a few ranks higher, lower or the same as you. The only time this wasn’t so is if you were in a party and everyone ranks were very different.

So you’re saying that a guy who is most likely OFFICIALY the best player in the world at the moment, should have to grind to “prove” he’s champion?
Buddy that guy is a millionare off of his ESL and MLG winnings, he doesn’t need to grind to prove nothing. Its a fact that he’s the #1 in those playlists. Unless you feel you’re better than him and he’s hogging your spot as Nr.1 in those playlists, I don’t see the reason behind your complaining.
