So,
I recently retired an original generation 360 and split a Slim with my girlfriend. We went S over the new E because of the extra ports as well as old style analog out because the E is really less of a deal while there are still Slims on the market.
After downloading the 100 gigs in downloaded games and installing the rest of my discs, I was ready to go and anticipating the Champ bundle. When I went to purchase this morning, my payment options would not allow me to buy the DLC. Further, when I went to the website, I was blocked there as well. I logged into my bank, accessed my paypal and made a transfer, and even called my bank to ensure the card in my hand was still tied to a valid account. It is.
So next I called Microsoft. Here’s the problem:
I have been participating in the new Marketplace/Dashboard Beta. If you’re not a part of the Beta, essentially all microtransactions have been changed from Microsoft points to dollar currency, which has raised the price slightly, but is the way Microsoft hopes to move forward.
Well, the Betas are tied to the gamertags that download them… but if you download your profile onto a new box, or a box that isn’t running the beta as a main dashboard, you will NOT be able interact on the marketplace AT ALL. You have to redownload your profile on a box without the beta in order to purchase content, and then redownload it on whichever console you prefer. Well, this involved resurrecting a Red Ringed box in order to get a few minutes of live time and download a profile and purchase the content. It took hours, and it as very frustrating.
I am very excited to finally start playing, and if anyone else has happened to try to download their DLC on a non beta box, this could be your issue! More frustrating, when I called Microsoft they not only said they couldn’t help me and had no ideas for a solution (I tried my method at the advice of my girlfriend, she rules) they also said there was no known or even estimated date for the rest of XBOX to transition to the Beta, and that I wouldn’t be able to make purchases on my new box until that time.
