Challenges suck the fun out of Halo

Every time I boot up Halo I get excited to play, but I always end up closing the game with burning frustration.

I’m not the type of guy to post on forums, but this has driven me to actually start using the forum.

I like playing Halo, I like doing my best to win the match, it’s fun. What I DON’T like is instead of trying to help my team win, I’m over in the corner of the map trying to do some stupid challenge they may or may not even register after I do it.

You know how many people just up and leave a match cause it’s not the game mode they need for a challenge? Or don’t have the weapons or vehicles they need?

What’s worse, the weapon spawns don’t make sense, I’ve been told to go into custom games on maps to learn the weapon spawns, but they are completely different, so I spend the entire match doing a scavenger hunt for weapons I need that may or may not be there, or are already taken by another bozo who gets himself killed, all for the sake of some stupid challenge.

Challenges are meant to be something on the side to speed up progression, not the only form of progression, and yes, I know they added a 50xp per win, but that’s nothing, and it doesn’t change the fact that you need to do all the weekly challenges for the Ultimate Challenge unlock or whatever.

But oooo boy, they probably won’t fix this, you know why? Challenge swaps. They’re sellling challenge swaps.

Create the problem, sell the solution.

Don’t like the challenge you got? Spend two buckaroonis and all your problems are gone and you might get an easier challenge… what a garbage idea…

I know the devs wanna make a great game, and they’re pushed to monetize it the way it is, and I’ll give credit where credit is due, the fact that once you buy the battle pass it’s yours forever, that’s amazing, so I don’t want this to be a hate post, just my honest frustrations with the challenge system.

And before someone says “oh jee just play for fun” SHUT UP- just… shut up…

EDIT: I was replying to someone about playing just for fun in another thread, here is my thoughts on it:

In a world where life moves a million miles an hour and there are so many games and things to do out there, playing a game for a substantial amount of times requires sacrifice of playing other games and such, so having progression, rewards, all that out-of-game stuff gives more meaning a weight behind everything you just did, cause you can look back at everything you’ve gotten- not only to enjoy using and equipping- but to validate the time you spent on one game over another.

Sure you can play a game for fun, but there’s a lot of fun games out there, so you need to go further, if you’re gonna pick between two fun games, you wanna pick the fun game that gives the most rewards and progression so you can look back on all that you’ve accomplished and feel validated you made the right decision to commit to this game.

One of my favorite games of all times is Team Fortress 2, and there is next to no progression in that game, but I still play it a lot because it’s a stellar game, but I feel like I’m almost wasting my time with it when after 2,000 hours I have nothing really to show for it.

All and all, these are video games, and how we enjoy them is up to the individual, we are all different, so try not to disregard what another person values.
