Challenges Rant

Just played through this weeks challenges and I have to say it kinda buffles me that some of this stuff is still happening:

  • Challenges that state PvP can be completed only in PvP matches - others in Bot Bootcamp too. That has been in there from the start and is fair enough. However it still happens that challenges that don’t state “in PvP” are triggering in Bot Bootcamp. It can’t be that hard to put into the description what the logic behind the scenes does. One gets the feeling that the people putting this in the frontend aren’t talking to the people implementing this in the backend (let alone: test it).
  • It’s pretty hard to find out what some of those challenges mean. Kill x amount with Banished weapons. The player guide on the website (it’s not in the game: https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/6882880281364-Halo-Infinite-Weapon-Equipment-and-Vehicle-Inventory-) tells me that e.g. the Gravity Hammer is a Banished weapon. Kills with it however don’t count towards this challenge. Another classic challenge (although I don’t know if it’s still in the game are the get kills with a kinetic burst fire weapon or something along those lines - why can’t it say BR? - this has been better with king of the loadout though)
  • You said no more challenges that can only be completed in a specific playlist outside of events. This week’s ultimate requires you to get kills in Team Slayer. Who exactly didn’t get the memo that this would no longer happen outside events?

These are all things that shouldn’t be hard to fix (contrary to deeply technical stuff having to do with replicating game state around half the planet) and simply make one feel like it’s other chaos inside the dev team. Please have someone go over the small stuff to and get this in order.

Thank you - rant over

The first one I don’t really understand what your point is. Pvp challenges can be completed in all playlists other than bot boot camp. If it doesn’t say pvp then you can complete them in any playlist. This is exactly how it’s worked since launch. It’s fairly straightforward and easy to understand.

Some of the challenges are bugged. Atriox’s Chosen being one of them. It does not track banished power weapon kills. I’ve submitted a bug report on this one specifically. I’ve had others that didn’t track correctly too. They do need to get this all straightened out and nailed down. It’s been a year already and you’d think they’d done that by now.

I agree wholeheartedly that no challenges should ever be playlist specific. I was also a little upset when I saw the weekly capstone challenge was to get 30 (I think it was 30) kills in Team Slayer specifically. I wasn’t that upset because Team Slayer is one of the core game types/playlists of Halo. It really shouldn’t be requiring you to play a specific playlist though. But hey at least it’s not as dumb as something like “get 20 assists in rumble pit.” because that is the definition of stupidity right there.

My issue with the first one is that while it should have worked like this from the beginning it happens time and time again that stuff IS limited to PVP but it IS NOT stated in the description. I believe today it was “kill two spartans with power weapons”. I don’t have a problem with them requiring PVP for many challenges - I do have a problem with the description and what’s required turning into guesswork and out of game research to find out what they mean and what’s broken right now.

If it was just one of those oddities I could live with “something being bugged”. But it’s been over a year now and there is still this kind of mismatch on a quite frequent basis. And one would assume that those would not be that hard to fix - after all the game is correctly counting all this stuff when handing out medals and the like.

I have never had any challenges require pvp that didn’t say pvp.

I think he was a bit confused when typing. But i know what he means. Some challenges that state that it has to be in PvP can still be done in Bot Bootcamp, while some challenges that doesn’t say it has to be in PvP don’t track in BB and thus do have to be in PvP.

Sometimes it can even be weirder where you basicly have a duplacate challenges active, with the exact same description (for instance: two challenges where you have to get kills with the AR, BR, SK and frag nades, both with the exact same discription and didn’t mention PvP) where one does track in Bot Bootcamp, but the other don’t.

And at another time i had two challenges active, where 1 was to complete 1 PvP match and the other was to complete 3 PvP matches. Basicly the same thing and according to the discription not available in BB. Yet the first still completed after a BB match, while the other didn’t track…

It’s just a mess.

I haven’t had this happen. Like I’m racking my brain trying to remember ever having this issue and I’ve got nothing.

They made the challenges so brain-dead easy now that you dont even need to read what they are to clear them. It was much harder/time consuming before this winter update changed things.

I completed the ultimate today but didn’t realise I was on the ultimate - what was the challenge to get the stance? It doesn’t say after you’ve done it.

I think it was 30 kills in Team Slayer.

That’s the reason they changed the challenges. People complained about them being overly specific or requiring you play a specific playlist. They made it so that the challenges aren’t what drives you to play or play a specific way. You can complete them just by playing. That’s the point.

Before they were just time consuming. Time consuming doesn’t equal fun, it’s grindy and unfun. Also people like being a to complete these challenges, but don’t necessarily have a large amount of time to play. Since this update I’ve finished all the challenges, but only did the capstone this week because it’s the first thing that was worth it to me. I think I only ever finished one weekly before and that’s because I was trying to finish the season 1 battle pass.

These changes are all part of the new XP system that they’re working on so we could very well see changes in the future. Such as a return to 20 challenges once season 3 rolls around in an effort to try to provide enough XP to complete the pass in a timely manner.

The entire system is idiotic and they somehow still cling to it after 90% of the player base left.
