Challenges need to be addressed

Challenges should never be based on RNG, challenges such as play capture the flag or strongholds when there is no guaranteed way to get those game is infuriating, sometimes I can go several games without ever seeing capture the flag or strongholds which incentives players leaving games to get the mode they want. This is even worse now with the tactical ops event, since I have finished the season 1 battle pass the only reason to play anymore is to just complete event challenges, but it has been miserable and I am at the point where I don’t even want to finish it anymore. I keep getting challenges such as get kills with the BR and proceed to get 5 consecutive games of mangler, stalker rifle, or commando slayer making it impossible to complete the challenge. Additionally I really only want to log on for the tactical ops challenges but I am forced to stop playing tactical slayer and instead play regular slayer or BTB or something else to give me more tactical ops challenges. I would much rather challenges that I am always making progress for maybe challenges like get 200 headshots in tactical slayer and you just get the entire armor set. Instead of having event passes and tying progression to the same exact challenge system the rest of the game uses just put out a big weekly challenge not based on RNG just purely off playing the game during the event and getting kills with any weapon. The challenges are so frustrating and make me really not want to play at all, events should be fun excuses to play the game for event week not a chore that is based off getting lucky finding the exact mode you need.

Wholeheartedly agree. As much as i dont want to single people out on the forums, if someone named General Fox gets on this thread, ignore him to kingdom come. He is relentless in shaming people who take this view.

I really like this concept. It could work in conjunction with the exsting challenges too. Maybe like with the current format, keep everything the same and then also add a separate “Legendary Challenge” or something that is always active once the event starts. “Get 200 headshots” for the whole week and you get a legendary armor skin or a set of weapon skins.

Generic stuff like (get kills, get assists, complete matches, win matches) should give you XP, then harder stuff (get X kills with Heatwave (insert weapon of choice here) will give you more XP and also CR.

Yea i really wish we had something like the credits system in Reach. They could even do that while still hiding some of the armor behind a time exclusive paywall.

I’m hoping they’ll eventually get the game mode specific categories eventually. But for now I don’t think they’ll be doing anything like that anytime soon unfortunately. When I run BTB I usually prefer BTB Slayer over the objective based variants myself, but eh, what can you do about it. Just ask and hope they’ll agree to a change eventually.

As for the event gun specific ones? Did they not get rid of the wrangler and sidekick with the commando and stalker rifles for this week? I will agree that was kind of dumb on their end… I haven’t touched tactic ops since I finished them all of the event last week. Wanted a break to play more BTB mostly.

Doing the event though, the wrangler varient was probably the least played of the bunch, so if they’re not more evenly spaced out they could definitely touch that up a bit so the likeness of each weapon varient would be at least fairly distributed between the three weapons.

I’d also probably remove some of the challenges out of the match that are usually force the players to purposely do things that could hinder their team as well for better challenges. The two specifice ones being ending a kill joy, which relies on them getting 5 kills without dying, then you need to be the one that kills them. While easier in tactic ops, this promotes the player to probably play worse to let them get killjoys first. Which is clearly not a good thing to be doing in matches. Melee from behind is another I’d argue shouldn’t be a thing, although this one is a lot easier in tactic ops thanks to the motion tracker being disabled I will admit. Got plenty of these in mangler matches lol.

I’d honestly probably replace them with:

  1. Top score for your team 1, 2 and 3 times
  2. Have more kills then deaths ( for slayer, this should be a normal challenge honestly )

Don’t have to be weapon specific, and would promote people to play more efficiently I’d think.

I doubt they’d ever do this, but I’d be cool if they allowed us to complete any challenge in any order instead of just doing 3-4 at a time like it is now. But I’d also think they’d probably need to increase the number of challenges needed to complete as well so people don’t just clear all of tactic ops in a single day and then never touch the mode again. Maybe 20 total challenges to complete, get one item for every 2 event challenges completed. They’ll still probably be able to clear them fast, since they can specific focus on the event challenges and even skip the normal ones completely.

Ultimately though it is unfortunately their game, one of the benefits of being the creators and DEV’s of the game is that it ultimately means what they want is final. But it never hurts to ask at least. But it’s also ok on their end to say no. That’s just how life is. It’s not really their game, if they’re not the ones to make the decisions after all.

They did get rid of the gun specific ones except the battle rifle, I have get 7 kills with the BR which would be easy if I actually got standard tac slayer and not with manglers, magnums, and stalker rifles

I was more so meaning last weak focused on Battle Rifle, Sidekick and Mangler, I thought this week was going to be Battle Rifle, Commando and Stalker Rifle matches only. If they kept it at three weapons and they balanced between those three weapons so that you I feel most people could tolerate specific weapon challenges more.

Actually, I just checked and I don’t have challenges weapon specific besides the Battle Rifle too. Hum… Can’t tell what the weekly challenge for that backdrop is though.

I get top score and have a positive K/D here and there, but if there are people who never do, those would probably be about as frustrating as the Killjoy and Back Smack challenges.

Maybe there could be a rank-based challenge system.
The worse your skill, the easier the challenges, and the better, the more difficult.

The thing about this is that if they keep doing nothing or the opposite of what people want, those people will leave.
Developers and publishers decide how the games will be, but without players, they’re not going to be getting the money they wanted from them.
As a result, if they want to get players to spend, they need to change their games to be like what players’ want or at least find an acceptable middle ground, not the other way around.

The RNG is actually stupid, it’s being used because there really isn’t enough content and it’s a way to show numbers.

This is part of the reason among a couple of others why I didn’t and won’t buy a stupid BP. RNG shouldn’t even be in this game ever. It’s not a looter shooter, and shows how out of touch 343 is. Actually, it shows they don’t know what they are doing but wasting a players time because they don’t know how to get their act together.

I believe with Challenges, the player needs to be able to attempt it every time they queue up for a match. That is all. As such, Challenges need to be made more generic, changing from Mode specific to Playlist specific. Weapon Specific Challenges should also be removed until we have static spawning weapons on all maps. Remove random Racks.

Having to spin the wheel first to be able to even attempt the Challenge is asinine in design.

You are aware they are called Challenges for a reason correct? Doing what you request would defeat the purpose of calling them challenges.

People hate the back smack and killjoy challenges because they push the player to do wreckless tasks or purposely playing bad in order to get a chance to score one, often hurting your teams chances of winning. Not because they’re too challenging.

Letting someone get 5 kills in a row on your teammates without dying, then hoping your the one that kills that player off.
Rushing down enemies in hopes they keep their back turned to you, something that is difficult with the motion tracker on giving you away. Which more often then not will just get you killed in the process most of the time.

Challenges should only be secondary. Its not a progression system and its beyond stupid how hard they’re trying to make it that way. They know this, we know this.

But then again, you know what they say about “suckers”…

Grant xp based on medals from actually playing the game properly instead of forcing players to play wrong.

Challenges to progress short lived events would be fine i guess.

I wouldn’t say challenges as a whole need to be removed, but they are just to vital to the games progression making it a requirement to complete challenges rather than bonus XP like it used to be back in halo 4 or how it currently is in the MCC. There should at least be another form of progression.

I think this is perfect. It’s so annoying to hop into a playlist to only not get the mode or weapon you need for your challenges and end up making no progress to any challenges at all for the match. Making it possible to at least have a chance to progress every match would feel much nicer.

They’d also probably make you buy all the gear flat out if they removed challenges.

Why? The challenges are used to provide xp to level the pass and unlock stuff.

You are probably right about that. I wish there were some free paths to paid gear though. I am a big fan of how destiny 2 does their cosmetics where all weapon skins and armor ornaments are in a set store that doesn’t rotate and you can buy anything you want whenever but if you don’t want to pay real money you have to complete challenges to get bright dust and wait for the armor you want to rotate into a rotating store that only sells like 5 items a week. That way it’s possible to earn gear but for people that don’t have time to grind the challenges or used all their challenges to buy something else they can use real money to buy whenever.
