I know this has been consistently brought up and thankfully 343 have already acknowledged this feedback, and hopefully now they can see so many more people have the same sentiment after the second flight too. I think it helps having it brought up consistently so they are fully aware how much the need to change it.
This Challenge system is BAD and These “Challenges” do in fact feel like “Chores.” This needs to change.
343 I don’t won’t to be forced into using certain weapons or playing certain game types. I want XP progression at the very LEAST for match performance, playing well, earning medals, winning games.
How in the world was this considered a good idea? The only thing I can think of was that it was heavily influenced by a corporate money making model, how can we can establish a battle pass system that enables “player choice” to do the chores (challenges) or BUY swaps or levels ups.
This doesn’t enable player choice… this just cheeses players off, we want to be rewarded for playing the game, not completing the 343 chore list.
Keep in mind too, that many of the ‘new player base’ you seem to be targeting already have had to clean their room in order to play? Now they have to play three objective game types in order to level up… oh wait no they can use mums credit card for swaps. All good.
Just posted a thread on this too but yours honestly hits the nail on the head brother.
I’m really hoping this system either gets drastically altered or honestly just removed entirely. It’s super annoying.
Challenge systems are not fun. I do not like when any game tells me, “DANCE MONKEY DANCE” to get the things that I want. Was me logging in and playing, not enough?

Yeah bro, it really is Bad. I doubt they’ll get anything done for launch but I really hope they’re busy brainstorming how to make changes after all this feedback. Let’s hope it doesn’t kill a chunk of the player base too quickly if they take too long to make changes.
It just blows my mind that they don’t have a system like MCC at the very least, compared to Infinites the system is literally perfect.
-Levels with ranks
-Performance based XP that you get after every game
-Challenges that give you a large boost in XP and bonus unlock points depending on the difficulty
In mcc challenges are there and I find myself doing them not because I have to in order to make any progression but because I don’t feel forced to do them every single match to get something
I wouldn’t mind a “chore” like System that COMPLEMENTS traditional performance based XP, but that alone is truly baffling in my mind. I don’t know what decision this was but it also isn’t a good one from “money making” perspective. If I knew I could finish a Season Pass whenever and could get XP by playing the game the way I enjoy, I’d be way more inclined to buy a season pass than to know “I can finish this whenever, but I will always have to do those stupid bounties” then literally I’d be spending money to force myself to do boring, bothersome and sometimes even task that contradict my playstyle. Me and friends are already set on not getting the first Season Pass, especially because “you can always get the Season pass and finish whenever”, so we’ll just wait till you get XP another way and THEN we will get the passes… if we’re still into playing the game by then.
Yeah I don’t like being told how I’m going to play a game is I want to progress.

This 100%. We want to be able to flex on our friends and show off our accomplishments playing the game. Giving 343i $25 for a battle pass I then have to do chores to complete is the opposite of fun. They designed multiplayer as if the Battle Pass was the core game and the actual gameplay was just to help you beat the battle pass. It’s an absolutely awful design and as far from “for the player” as humanly possible.
Challenge only progression was always going to be an issue, they don’t allow you to play the game in an organic manner if you want to unlock anything.
But oh hey look at that you want to purchase some exp boosts and challenge swaps in their game where they claim to respect a player’s time and not force them to do “chores”.
This is exactly the kind of thing I was worried about when they announced the game was going F2P, especially when you combine that with the fact its the only way you can things as simple as bloody colors. F2P has a place in the industry for projects that couldn’t get support through traditional publishing like Warframe, not for established “AAA” devs and publishers.

Why does it matter if the battle pass never goes away and there are infinite challenges? Not trying to be aggressive.

Yes the system is bad because it’s the ONLY way to Progress in game. I’d be fine if challenges were a bonus not the means.
Also after a few matches the total number you need for small XP goes up. I needed 6 matches just to get some XP. Inconceivable!

Literally in the first sentence. “Do these challenges or pay up to do different challenges” is not respecting a player’s time. Endless drudgery is still endless drudgery even if you don’t have a time limit. Its not as if permanent battle passes were ever meant to really benefit the players, its to cover their own behinds because you know people would go ballistic if they could miss the opportunity to unlock their favorite armors.
Permanent battle passes do not excuse bad practices elsewhere Infinite is not appreciably better than any other Free/Fee 2 pay game.

Because the challenges are the ONLY way to progress at all. Challenges should be optional extras to supplement organic gameplay, not dictate the way people play because there literally isn’t any other way to gain XP.
Yeah the challenges and things are stupid. No challenge should make you use a specific weapon or whatever.
Challenges should be basic things but just up the number a CRAZY amount. It should be things like get X kills with automatic weapons or precision weapons or power weapons. Get X wins. Get X amount of assists, and so on. Basic things, but a lot of it!
Unfortunately I don’t think a lot of these types of mundane challenges like, kill 10 people with the bulldog or whatever are going to go anywhere. We’ll have to wait and see but I doubt it.
I love how 343 says the game shouldn’t feel like work when in fact they’re doing all these things that are making people do things that they don’t really want to do just so they can unlock X. Not me, as I don’t care enough, but lots of people do.
I think people are just going to have to have my attitude and just not care about the challenges at all…not care about leveling or anything like that and just play the damn game! I won’t be giving them a cent for bloody cosmetic stuff. Forget this “free-to-play” garbage.

I agree 100 percent. I liked the system that gears 3 had, along with how cod use to do it, not sure anymore haven’t played cod in awhile. Basically the set challenges unlock a variant or armor. In fears it was get x amount of headshots and u unlocked a sniper skin. That passive and u can gain it without having to go out of your way to do challenge. Also shows who has got a good headshot skills, once you see that skin or whatever the reward was. When u play against them.
i would prefer permanent long term challenges like “Get 100 Roadkills for a skin” over “get 3 kills with spike grenades for 200EXP 00:43:20 Remaining BETTER HURRY SPARTAN OR ELSE”
No match XP means medals are pointless too. I like to play the objective in objective based modes because it feels good to get those medals and you end up directly getting XP for say, capping the flag. Now with only challenges I feel like it doesn’t matter how I play and to make it worse, theres no loss for me to sit around for some lame randomized challenge like kill a flag carrier. Instead of rewarding good gameplaying, the challenges reward, idk, just doing random crap? There is already a reward for killing the flag carrier, its called a medal, and I want my XP for that.

Yeah one of the biggest problems with the system is the fact that players are forced into selfish decision making in order to complete Chores … ahum… Sorry Challenges. Since challenges are the only way to gain XP and level up. It incentivises selfish gameplay, there are numerous examples of how this is going to really mess things up. Just think of the guy who activated his double Xp in a slayer match? or the last flag cap in capture the flag. He has to get just a couple more needler kills? or one more cap… He completely ignores teamwork and every weapon in the sandbox in order to get those last few kills or that last flag cap before the timer expires. However If he got XP for performing well via medals and completing match objectives that would incentivise team work and playing the game as intended.
