Challenges as your only progression? Seriously?

This was what I feared when I was playing the flight, that they would keep challenges as your only progression in the final game and NOT through kills or just finishing a match. I have never seen this in any other game, can someone PLEASE tell me what’s the reasoning for this? That is just an awful decision. I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft forced this to get people on the battle pass or something. I don’t want other devs to start doing this crap. So anti-consumer.

I have seen so many flaws with this game and we’re not even at the launch. That is worrying. Microsoft has seriously no respect for the flagship title and their fans. 🤦

Yeah its kinda way to over the top if you ask me . there should always be a steady progression with playtime and maybe some extra progression when chalenges are compleated . but forcing peoples to do X and Y that might not even suit their playstyle is a bit on the tedious shore … I dont play a game to get an extra work , i play games to have fun and to get better and grow more skills in various aspect . But i understand that many peoples will be very anoyed by that and it will lead to peoples " cheating " to get the chalenges done . Similar to destiny 2 weapons that you could only aquire in PVP . Peoples found a way to cheat lobbys etc…

I just hope they wont go that route its very lame . Speeding up progression trough chalenges is fine . but Staling it compleatly if there is no chalenge done is just wrong

halo’s progression system has become increasingly worse on every release since reach. I can only conclude that 343i has no idea how to implement a good progression system, which is a critical fault when it comes to keeping a game alive.

They need to add a match-based XP system before launch so that players can progress through the battle pass without challenges. The current system isn’t good for the sandbox and doesn’t encourage playing with your friends, who will always have some or all challenges different from yours.

If they don’t change this before launch, they’re going to have a massive player engagement problem. Even if you don’t care about cosmetics, this will interfere with core gameplay.

I really would prefer it if I can progress by just playing the game and not completing arbitrary tasks. Thanks.

Geez I’m starting to think I’ll try the free multiplayer and see before buying. Was going to wait until coop was released anyways, but everything about this release screams dumpster fire.

I’m going to get paired with so many random people who are going to be doing their challenges and not playing the objective and it’s going to throw the whole game off.

Ah yes, because I wanted to progress through the game by doing dumb, annoying, tasks. I definitely didn’t want to have fun playing the game modes I prefer… no waaaay…

Im keen for the game as much as the next person, But honestly this decision they’ve made is utter garbage. They could have slapped reach’s progression and xp system into infinite with no changes and I would be 100% happy, at least then I could choose to do challenges and get a sizable xp boost depending on the challenges, or play whatever game mode I want and make xp my way. At the end of the day they’re trying to encourage everyone to buy the battle pass, And idk if anyone noticed but in the first flight, there was a section to buy credits that was not yet available. So what are people going to do when they run out of challenges or can’t do the current ones available? just buy credits or shut the whole game off until there challenges reset. To be completely honest I think they have thought about this exact topic and dont give a crap if a few people stop playing for 24 hours until their challenges reset because they know on the other side of the fence the remaining people will just buy their way through the battle pass. This is a EA Games type mentality and is absolutely not Halo. “spiritual reboot” my -Yoink-

Literally pointless for me to play my best and get as many kills as possible now unless the game decides to give me a challenge for it… because its real fun getting mvp and winning a match with the highest kills and getting 0 reward for it.

Already suspected 343 would screw up another halo game which the flight and announcement of delayed coop has pretty much confirmed for me.

Yup. After learning about this, I’ll try Campaign but that’ll be the extent of it. It’s bittersweet, I remember being 8 when Halo CE came out and being hooked right way, to gaming and the Xbox brand. Not just Halo, but mostly all multiplayer FPS have followed the Fortnite blueprint, making as much $$$ as possible. I get it, it’s a business first, but I miss the heart and soul that went into a lot of games. Those are still out there (thankfully) but are harder to find. These companies just want to nickel and dime you at every turn, but I guess that’s where the industry is.

This trend will be interesting to see what it does to gaming. Really. I hope I’m proven wrong on Dec. 8, my expectations are in the basement so I can avoid disappointment. At least Xbox has other decent games coming to round out the year.

Players should always feel like they’re making progress. This is the most ridiculous oversight, it’s simply a joke. Even if it’s minimal, players especially in a F2P want to know they’re “grinding for something.” Also if there aren’t overall player levels, at least show the BP level and allow the number to go beyond whatever the pass goes to. Players like things as such, meaningless or not. Give people a reason to keep playing no matter how small, game dev 101.

The more and more news that comes out about this game the more concerned I am about it.

Just a few months ago everything was sounding amazing for this game, but over the course of this past month 343 has just tripped over themselves.

While I can just jump into the f2p multiplayer anytime, I’m definitely waiting for reviews to drop before buying the campaign because there’s no telling what else they’re hiding from us.

No good progression system equals me not playing Infinite’s multiplayer. Simple as that. 343 need to get their mind out of the clouds and get into the year 2007 at bare minimum.

They system they have in MCC works well! Why could they not just use that rather than this challenge only BS

Honestly, my biggest problem with it is just how blatant it is that they’re doing it to make players spend more money. When they initially introduced the concept of challenge swaps, I thought that was a really cool idea. That way players could actually go after challenges they’d enjoy doing instead of something like “get x amount of kills with a needler” that forces them to sprint for a specific weapon they don’t personally enjoy each match. But that was when I assumed they were like optional xp bonuses and we’d also be getting progression xp for playing too.

Now, if you want to progress, you HAVE to focus on the challenges. So when you complete one and it’s replaced with one you don’t want, you’ll have to swap it out. But here’s the thing, you only get a handful of these swaps from moving through the battle pass (which you can only do by completing challenges). So when you inevitably use the few of them you unlocked, you’ll have to purchase more swaps if you want to enjoy the challenges and level up.

It also sounds like it’s gonna be an extremely grindy game, either grind insanely much or pay with money. Sounds like micro-transactions is their priority. There seems to be way more payed content than free unlockable content in general atm (I might be wrong, it’s just what it sounds like). And considering progression might be super slow unless you grind challenges those free unlocks wont come very frequently.
They said there wont be free content on every tier, I’m not sure what that means, maybe someone can explain that to me?

Damn this game shouldn’t be F2P. Over at the MCC team there is such a “for the player” mentality. MCC is as good as it is because it’s a game you buy. I would pay for Infinite’s MP if I got all the content for that, but I won’t pay for specific overpriced items, especially not when it harms the game experience so much, I wont support this decision/mentality with my money, I’ll play it fully free.
I hear Jeff Steitzer in my head saying “betrayal” right now.

How else are they going to get time strapped players who can only play an hour or two a day to buy those BP tiers?
If you earnt XP just from playing the game those Tier boosts would be pointless

I called this months ago…months and months ago when the game was anounced as F2P, I said MTX would bloat out the game…
If you thought the armour was bad in H5 with having like 1 armour with 6 “skins” you just wait until infinite comes out

I need an explanation. Does this mean the only way to gain XP (such as MCC XP or H5 152) is thru challenges??? So winning or participating in matches does not add to your XP? Or am i wrong?

Exactly.

Not seen a lot of “gotta make money somehow” thrown around lately either.
But hey, the BPs never expire.
