Right now 2 out of my 4 challenges want me to capture flags. Well, that is pretty hard to do if you play against a good team, but it is even harder to pull off when there is not even a Capture the Flag playlist! These challenges can be done in 1 game, but also in 30+, depending on your RNG.
There are many things to do to fix this:
Have all challenges open all the time. Not just 4.
Give everybody 10 free challenges swaps per week.
Have seperate Slayer, Capture the Flag, Oddball and Strongholds playlists. One version for Quickplay and one for Ranked.
Or just implement the System CoD has: you simply turn on playlists you want to play and turn playlists off you don’t want to play. So if a challenge wants you to capture flags, you can simply turn off all the playlists that are not related to Capture the Flag.
I think 1 free challenge swap per week would be very fair.
Ranked playlist feels really good right now, I want to see more but not splitting the gametypes. I’m talking Doubles/SWAT.
The challenge restrictions are admittedly very annoying, I wish they were all open at once. Every week so far I’ve completed multiple challenges before they’ve come up then had to do them again.
Yeah every single challenge I have now is stuff I can only do in PVP and most of them I have to win. I’m not touching anything like that. I played 4 games and lost 2 and tied 1. Those 3 I was MVP of the match. Give me weapon kills or assists or other things you can get playing naturally if you play well.
There is NO way I’m going to score 13 flags in PVP matches. Even if I could pick up the flag, everyone else gets the same challenge so they all will want to do it too. Also for like only 500 xp between the 2 challenges. It’s awful. You are better off just playing bot matches to get 50 xp at a time once you do the first six than making yourself hate life trying to do most of these other ones.
I’m fine with swat and double being added to the game. But this game definitely needs a ranked Slayer playlist and a Ranked objective playlist. Maybe also a HCS playlist.
Also challenges need to change. Like Capture a flag OR kill 2 players with an Oddball OR get 20 kills in Slayer.
I really wish they would give XP based on your score and medals like in MCC. It would get people to actually play well instead of stupid things like camping their flag the whole game, letting some guy take it just to kill him and return it.
I totally agree. A lot of challenges make you go against your own team. Maybe there is some teammate that is really good at capturing flags, and you are not. If winning in this game was important, you would let that player capture the flags, while you guard him/her or kill enemies. But this challenge wants YOU to cap flags, which maybe fails and because of that your team loses. Ugh. What a dumb system.
I can only imagine sort of why they have kept it small initially especially ranked is so they can assess the crossplay situation. Right now how it is done, they are splitting the population 3 ways for a single ranked playlist. If they do this for all ranked playlists then the game quality will go down.
I don’t think so. It works in a old game like Halo 5, that doesn’t even have cross-play.
A simple solution would be to have a CoD system. Where I just select that I want to play ranked and of the 4 gamemodes in ranked I select Slayer and Strongholds and don’t select Oddball and Capture the Flag for example. I don’t know why a new game like Halo Infinite has too few players to pull something like that off.
I know the population is lower but for H5, I have to expand my search to find games. Literally couldn’t find games at my skill level most the time when I played previously.
Every game of Breakout was a mess too, featured Champions and Gold players.
Couldn’t find shame even of the casual games some times of day, like Castle Wars.
I know Infinite doesn’t have that issue right now but they are essentially making sure that most players will experience good connections and balanced games frequently instead of having to throw that out the window. I’d argue having less choice but ensuring a better gameplay experience is a positive way of handling the start of the game. Not to mention they need to analyse the crossplay statistics.
Halo MCC while it does let you pick the gametypes generally has much worse balanced games. I’ve noticed when I play social, I routinely get 25+ kills in slayer. Can’t be fun for either team.
