I’m back for the first time in like a month, for this event and immediately the challenge system is driving me away. I’m not going to spend money on your bad game 343i. Giving me a challenge asking me to end a killing spree in SWAT is going to make me put it down, for the long run and straight up skip the event. I want to want to play your game, but it feels like you are doing everything in your power to stop that. Getting 3 triple kills… come on!
Edit: the challenge system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. It is single-handedly the worst progression system that I have seen in a AAA video game. When the only method of unlocking your event pass is to force me to play games that I don’t want to play, and that are not part of the event in the first place…. This doesn’t make any sense.
Agreed, these challenges are a joke…
Any ‘End Kill Streak’ type challenge is dumb, this means you have to let your opponent get kills before you can kill them. This actually led to several hilarious matches a few weeks ago where me and my friends just ran towards the enemies to let ourselves get killed until one of them had a kill streak, and then one of us kills him. I still wonder what they, both 343 and our opponents were thinking…
Same with getting kills with a specific weapon in this event, while you have no choice in your starting weapon. Meaning it’s all random, and could lead to the need to play several matches before you even get paired with the weapon listed in your challenge. Meaning the time played is wasted, because most other challenges are based on other play modes.
ya, I don’t even know if I want to try and grind out this week with my limited available time of like 2 evenings. Last time, I lost lot of sleep lol
I have 2 challenges for back smacks in Tactical Slayer and 2 for ending killing sprees. I also have one to get killing sprees in Tactical Slayer. These are gonna be a grind, and it might drive me to not even try and do it.
What bums me out most is that I have Stan-ed every Halo game since 3, including 4 and 5, and would have for 2 and CE if I owned an Xbox and was older at the time. I’ve even driven 4 hours just to play Fireteam Raven. I love this series. It’s sad that a bad progression system can make me feel this way about the game as a whole, but it is not worth my time hoping that the RNG gods grace me with good luck. I have zero interest in it.
I’m glad I’m not alone in this. I also have been on a hiatus from the game recently just because I’ve been sucked into Elden Ring and I finished the battle pass a while back. Given that time away, I forgot how I much I hated the challenge system.
It’s just so frustrating having challenges based on nothing but luck and happenstance or worse, in my opinion anyway, challenges that aren’t even possible in the match you’re given. Currently my only challenge for the event is 7 mangler kills so all I can do is wait and hope to be put into a manglers swat match. Or I have to hop into another playlist altogether to knock a different one out I don’t benefit from at all so I can even have access to my next event challenge. Otherwise, I’m not making any progress until the game graces me with a mangler match.
And I know at some point someone will say “well you can just play for fun like the old days” but here’s the thing — that worked back in the day because the entire system wasn’t designed around these challenges for unlocking armor. This one clearly is and tries to incentivize you to go after them. Sure there were armor unlocks in other games, but they were either tied to achievements you could just go do whenever you wanted or you built up credits of some sort regardless of the mode you wanted to play. Not by being given random timed challenges that you have to wait for just the right match to even attempt.
By putting this system into effect for unlocking armor it inherently makes it frustrating and feel like you’re missing out when you’re trying to progress but the game is literally preventing you from doing that.
Yes the MK5 helmet is sick but unfortunately there is no variety and will probably be the most common helmet used by the end of the week. Because there is nothing else new…
And what makes it worse… you’ll start to see them with Bunny ears attached to them
You bring up a good point that I didn’t even think about. Having completed the BP already, the non-event challenges are literally only there as busy work or to encourage you to pay month on swaps. They have LITERALLY ZERO positive benefit on my play experience now. Seems like a massive mistake on 343i’s part.
Yeah I’m having some issues and not much fun with this one.
Game 1: crash halfway into the match
Game 2: regular tactical
Game 3: sidekick
Challenges for event completed I now have to play fiesta to get more event challenges
Game 4: fiesta
Game 5: fiesta
Game 6: sidekick
And the game can’t connect to the server. I’m done for today or until I get some friends online to try and play with. Emphasis on TRY.
I was gonna slog it until i got the helmet, but looking at it i think im not bothering. These challenges are designed to be as inconvenient, and annoying as possible to incentivize buying swaps. If anything they suck the fun out of the game, and some of them don’t even make much sense for the playlists they want you to play them on.
I honestly don’t see the kill joy challenge as a problem personally. In Fiesta it was a joke because of the random weapons. How can I stop someone with a sidekick when they have rockets?
But Swat… it’s not too bad. My first game on for the event I got 2 kill joys.
I think this is where the overall design of challenges works against you though. Like, I have a challenge that is one of the last ones for me to get which is get 1 kill joy. Well, I need to hope that as soon as I can actually progress it I can do it. I’ve already got 2 that haven’t counted for it.
If there was a way to get challenge swaps quite often it’d be fine, but there isn’t. So they genuinely expect you to do challenges like get multiple triple kills, killing sprees or assassinations and to have fun doing it. Can you believe that?
Before my ban, I saw I had to get 10 Mangler kills.
Will be interesting to see how many Mangler matches I get now, considering the many MANY posts there has been about not getting modes you need in order to complete specific challenges, and yours.
