Been playing Halo since LAN parties in CE. Loved objective games and always enjoying playing a support. Lately I been quitting out of matches if they’re a waste of time and won’t give me a W for a challenge. I’ll yell at folks for not following objectives. I’ll also be hypocritical at times and focus on weapon kills over the stated goal of a match.
It’s just a damn shame how the EXP and customization might ruin the entire experience of an otherwise fairly well polished game.
Medal progression and better battle pass experience is not that difficult to figure out. Can’t imagine what happened. Hope it’s figured out soon.
Sounds like you have some figuring out to do brother. As a CE gamer I want you to think back to what you enjoyed about that game. Why did you keep playing when there was “nothing” to play for.
Forget about the challenges, the flag is calling your name.
Yeah, good luck trying to hold 3 capture zones alone when the rest of the team is playing Slayer who knows where or afking to get XP. And only for you to gain 50xp at the end of the match. Nice!
This is why gaining XP should change to how you perform during the match rather than having to complete random challenges during every match. Then the flag would actually call your name.
Realistically speaking this is a balancing act. Challenges need to toe the line between something the player needs to strive for and something that encourages relevant gameplay. As it stands the current implementation introduces too many conflicts to that balancing act.
Some of this will even out when playlists are opened up, so you can at least reliably chase objective based challenges in an objective list and kill based challenges in slayer and so on. But its a system that will require continued tweaking, there isn’t gonna be a one and done fix here.
Overall I’m fine with the challenge system existing, but this should be an addition to how well you perform during the matches, not the main objective. Since that is what it’s currently turned out to be.
These challenge would then act as a small boost to progress the battle pass (slightly) faster. Rather than being the sole way of proceeding forward. But yeah it requires balancing, and of course I do believe they will add separate playlists later on.
I’m not entirely against performance based xp, but that’s an entirely different type of balancing act altogether. I know experiences have been varying, but playing just a couple hours per night since the beta launch I’m already at 18, which is very slow compared to other games of the type, but the season is going to go through April. Too fast of a grind is just gonna create another set of complaints.
I’ve been playing as well from the beta launch and currently am halfway to level 20 and most of those levels were gained from the challenges. But did I enjoy doing those challenges? Not really…
I’ve used all of the challenge swaps and the last one I had to get 5 killing sprees to complete the ultimate challenge in Fiesta and that was more nerve wracking than enjoyable.
And although the performance based XP progression is different, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s gonna be any faster. Since 343 controls how much XP you would gain from different medals. So they could easily adjusted over time.
So in a sense they would need to drastically lower the XP gained from challenges. But still keep the reward there for people who want to complete all of them. This mechanism I actually found enjoyable that you actually get something at the end, although it didn’t work for the first week. But now that I’m done with this weeks challenges, every other match feels lacking.
The performance based XP progression would be more engaging for the players to keep playing the game.
And it possibly could be slower if you perform badly. And faster when you do the objectives of gamemodes.
But at least it would be better than getting 50XP for either losing or winning the match.
But back to this current system. With this rate how we are proceeding, if we complete each weeks’ challenges, then we’ll still get to level 100 way before the season ends. Basically halfway to January.
And this season lasts till the beginning of May… So aren’t we already grinding it too fast?
That’s kind of where I was going with that, given how people keep implying or outright stating that under the current system it’d be near impossible to clear a pass without spending money for boosts. Ots clearly doable, just far from being a positive endeavor.
I enjoyed playing objectives where everyone would move towards the same goal. Something which I mentioned in the OP is not the case anymore lol some folks play flag, others are getting challenges done. Not to mention those challenges can vary from vehicle usage to weapon kills. CE style Halo is non existing here.
