Challenge update appreciation post!

You are in a minority on this, and the returns on investment aren’t there for the changes your asking.

Certainly solves the problem regarding the challenges. But unfortunately does not solve the problem of being able to play the mode you wanna play. Still just the playlist with all stuff mixed in it. :frowning:

That is a huge QoL improvement

Its great. Some people just will never be happy.

skill issue???
Some people are complaining about some simple challenges now.

only bad challenge i had this week were snipers / skewer kills - not a fan that i can’t directly queue into that. would prefer sniper kills challenge and team snipers to only have Sniper Rifles

I think 343 made them easier but more grinding is required. Fore example, get a 5000 score in any game mode. It"s easy, but it"s a lot, I personaly like it.

Also would agree with that, I mean they whave a stalker rifle and pulse carbine paired with each other, and a mangler wich makes some sense if it had it’s combo that actual shotguns have.

This can go two ways. A challenge can be challenging because the objective is quite hard to achieve (ex: get an overkill). Or a challenge can be challenging because a simple objective must be completed many times (ex: get 50 kills).

In the case of the latter, the challenge is really “how quickly can you get 50 kills?” Better players will do this in very few games while less-skilled player may take longer, but it doesn’t straight up skill-cap less skilled players the way the first one does.

As for “Bottable” challenges, I think this would actually improve the overall health of the game. Players who want to aggressively chase challenges can just do that in Bootcamp where quitting and playing non-optimally don’t really affect your teammates too much. And players who want to do their challenges with some integrity can still do that in PvP. Personally I do any Bottable challenge in bootcamp because it saves me time and usually the challange is something easy like “get 5 AR kills” which be done in like 2 minutes.

While I agree that players should be able to play modes/use weapons they don’t usually prefer, there is a reason players have comfort zones. I suck with the commando. I don’t like using it, so I don’t pick it up. And I’m sure my teammates don’t want me picking it up (it’s not like it’s a must-have weapon like the BR or Rockets). But suddenly I’m tasked with getting 10 kills with it and my team suffers.

If the challenge were “Get 10 kills with Tactical Rifles (BR or VK)”, I could choose to use the VK, a harder to use gun IMO, and still get rewarded for my effort. But if that isn’t going well and I get tired of costing myself and my teammate games, I can switch to my preferred gun. MCC does this where you’re just asked to get kills with headshot capable guns and that can be done with the measly H2 pistol or the devastating H4 Binary Rifle.

And we can be semantic about the word “challenge” all we want, but the fact of the matter is:

As long as 343 is requiring players to complete 21 challenges for a limited-time item that may more may not ever return, as well as challenges being the primary/quickest way to progress the battle-pass, challenges have to be easy enough to be complete by low skilled players or they have to have broader parameters.

Again MCC does this very well and it’s a travesty that 343 didn’t just copy that.

I admit “kill so and so many Spartans with x” is rather boring. But people won’t settle till the challenges are “jump 5 times in a single match” and people can just blitz weekly rewards in an hour.

And a mixture of both is a good idea.

Some could be. But probably not all.

Overall I would love to see a skill tier to the challenges.

Eg. “Get kills in a Slayer game”. You get ‘x’ amount of XP for 5 kills, ‘y’ for 15, and ‘z’ for 20. Or whatever. You can tick of the challenge easily, if that’s your jam, or go hard for the extra XP.

You could then make every challenge “bottable” - but you only get the ‘x’ amount of XP option.

I guess it does rely on you being sensible. You know, hit the practice range for a few minutes to get comfy with it. Use it sensibly in-game. Not necessarily go for the 10 kills in one single game if you don’t have the skill.

And overall, by getting better at the harder weapons, in the end, your team suffers less.

But I do tend to agree with your overall sentiment. Sadly.

At least they seem to be heading in a better direction…
