Challenge update appreciation post!

Hello! So if you’ve yet to notice, it seems like 343 has stealthily updated challenges to no longer require you to play modes you can’t directly choose to play. This is a great little update, because I personally believe that that was one of the larger sources of frustration amongst players regarding the challenge system.

It also seems like challenges overall are easier? I can’t say for sure, so please tell me if this has been your experience too.

This change is a step in the right direction, which are very welcome. Thanks 343!

I noticed that, so thank you :upside_down_face: With new modes coming it would be nice to have game type selection similar to mcc rather than scrolling down all the time :face_with_peeking_eye:

Kill 10 players with Commando, kill 10 players with Needler. Horrible weapon choices.

What? Getting 10 kills with either of those is child’s play, and they spawn very frequently.

What’s so bad about those challenges specifically?

At this point I just wish that performance in game contributed towards the battlepass. Challenges should have just been a bonus.

Well yes I wholeheartedly agree, but we’re not gonna get a change like that overnight, unfortunately.

Once we get performance progression I think they will mess it up at first as well. Don’t think that it would be too far fetched for them to have it solely attached to a rank and have no effect on the battlepass.

Seriously?

They are on pretty much every map. And they are pretty powerful. You should be using those weapons pretty often anyway.

Should be able to reel off 10 kills in 2 to 3 games.

I don’t like the Commando, and the Needler I had to play a few matches of Quickplay and skip the objective just to try to get kills. Fine and fun for you maybe, but I’d go with a weapon most people use like AR/BR.

Also stop making them PvP related. I want to get my weekly challenges done in Bot Bootcamp.

First up. They are “challenges”. So it’s ok for them to be a bit “challenging”. To put you out of your comfort zone. So not everything should be Bottable.

Secondly. Why not Team Slayer, Fiesta, or Ranked. You know. Games where the objective is to kill people.

Even then, part of any objective game is to get kills / provide support. Why does this have to be “skipping” the objective.

And thirdly. It only took you a “few” games. Mission accomplished.

Personally I think challenges such as this are great. It encourages players to step outside of their comfort zone. To try something. And maybe, come out a better Halo player!

Ok, “bruh”.

How about step outside your comfort zone and realise not everyone finds the same “challenges” rewarding or fun as you?

Fair enough.

But still, good weapon choices.

This doesn’t make any sense. Just play against real human beings

If you were given the rewards directly?! :joy:

Yes. I noticed this. Thanks

Another challenge, 50 kills in tactical slayer. :face_vomiting: I guess they really want to sell those challenge swaps. I just had a 4 vs 3 for about half the match we didn’t get a bot to replace either of the two players that left.

I’ve enjoyed PvP in Infinite a good deal, but this perspective isn’t given nearly enough thought in the discourse around this game. Historically, I’ve preferred Halo as a PvE experience, and 343i actually did a great job rewarding myself and other PvE players for playing how we wanted in MCC with that game’s PvE challenges.

Infinite comparatively gives no love to PvE players; Not only are there no challenges to incentivize spending time in the only PvE mode in the game, but that mode is also painfully low on replay value in general thanks to no Mission Select being present. When they add Campaign Co-Op and Mission Select, I hope they add at least a handful of campaign challenges with them.

I understand the frustration PvP-first players would have if they had to spend time playing the campaign to complete their weekly decks, but that’s what all PvE-first players have been dealing with for every challenge in this game since launch. Ultimately, I hope to see Infinite adopt MCC’s PvE/PvP challenge stacks as separate decks that allow a player to earn the weekly Ultimate Reward or maybe one of two weekly Ultimates based on which deck(s) they clear. Or better yet, they could implement an Ultimate “Token” system as many on the forums here have suggested, which could be earned by clearing either PvE or PvP challenges for the week and then spent in a similar fashion to how Season Points worked in MCC on a catalog of available Ultimate Rewards.

TL;DR: People shouldn’t be hating on players who wish they didn’t have to spend so much time playing PvP to clear challenges. This game already punishes those players with how it’s designed fundamentally at this point in time.

One of the many design flaws with Infinite’s progression system fixed. Still gonna be a while before it’s in a favorable state.
