Challenge Requirements are Allegedly Increasing

Well. Looks like we’re getting those microtransactions whether we like it or not.

Allegedly, 343 is sneakily increasing the difficulty of getting Seasonal Points. According to one Twitter post (which I can’t link, thank you Waypoint), Objective Results used to take 10 Medals in Matchmaking. It now takes 25 Medals in Matchmaking.

It appears that 343 is going the Infinite route with Halo MCC microtransactions, where they’ll make earning it annoying, so you feel inclined to purchase it. This is all under the auspicious of making it easier for players, which if the allegations are correct, is a bold-faced lie. I do so like being lied to.

How on Earth 343, or rather the out-of-touch upper management, cannot see how ruinous this will be to what few new players pick up MCC, I have no idea.

Welcome to the future of Halo, everyone.

It’s been increased for a few months now so it’s not really sneakily. It’s likely that someone noticed it after the mtx convos and decided to post about it.

As the other user mentioned, this was changed many months ago. Objective medals are easier to earn now, so the number went up. Other challenges didnt change.

Which, in fairness, I think many of us would have done the same. I’ve looked at challenges and their changes several times before, if I had done that in light of recent news, my instinct reaction would have been for the worse as well. This small change isn’t super drastic, but without context of prior updates, I would have had the same thought.

Helps that they added a whole bunch of medals for H3. But still, the potential screwing with MCC’s status quo is never a good sign, especially when they aren’t changing it for the better to get more players into the game.

To be fair, isn’t that literally the only change they’ve made to the challenges to actually make them “harder”? I’m also pretty sure they semi-countered the increase in medals needed by adding more medals that count to that 25 - (I seem to recall that the only medal you could earn in Oddball was killing someone while holding the ball, whereas killing the enemy ball carrier now counts, along with the various medals for holding the oddball for periods of time).

I remember when the challenges used to only be for 10k, 25k XP, at least we get proper XP pay-outs now too.

And lastly - I’m not defending 343 in any way when I ask this, but, are paying for season points really going to hurt anyone? I see this as being similar to buying req packs in H5 - you can earn them in the game for free, if you want to put the small amount of time necessary in. It’s not like some of the armours in Halo Infinite where if you don’t cough up, you’ll never have them. Sure, someone could buy all of the season points and “unlock” all the armour quicker than you, but I’d say the joke’s on them. I’d rather have a reason to come back to the MCC every week…

I personally wouldn’t mind if they scaled the challenge and end of match XP depending on which tour you’re at, tour 8 right now I’m not even 50% through the overall XP grind to max level and end of match score is pain.

They increased the medal count because they made more medals count for the challenge. I got ten medals in one game of FFA oddball. Be pretty silly to make more medals count for the challenges but leave the criteria for the challenge the same. It is supposed to be a “challenge” :slightly_smiling_face:

IIRC the H2A/H4 medals basically got rolled out to H3 and others as they were far more generous

They need to deal with 343 management and ensure MTX don’t ruin MCC like they did Infinite.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they have been planning this for a long time, and slowly moving in this direction. This won’t be the last thing tampered with if they do end up adding MTX, which looks increasingly likely.

So disgusting,
