It has been confirmed that XP will only come from challenges. I feel like this is against their messaging with FOMO and needs to be changed.
One step forward, two steps back…
where´s the sense of progress? i feel like commendations all over again.

Some would say a sense of pride and accomplishment.
I hate this system in MCC. I am frequently seeing people in the forums asking for season points to be rewarded though leveling up because waiting for next batch of challenges is too annoying. It is artificial throttling transparently malicious. And it is frustrating that we know they are aware we hate this, but continue to not change for the sake of bad faith monetization practices.
I might not bother with season 2+ microtransactions because I like Reach’s armor enough and this system is too infuriating to deal with quarterly.
It’s the same as MCC. Where’s the problem?
A lot of people criticism Halo (of 343i) just for “took” things from another games and now criticism for not take it? I don’t get it.
Ok, there better be infinite challenges for getting XP or the game is -Yoinked!-. That is actually worrying.
Keep saying the same: MCC progression on the BP is with challenges, what’s the problem?
This is an absolutely horrible design choice. Really hoping they will correct this before launch.
One of my biggest complaints in the tech test was this system. It pigeon holes you into using certain weapons, playing a certain way, and playing specific game types that you otherwise might not. They really should just be called chores, because that’s what they felt like. And then when I finally was able to complete them all, and could play how I wanted, I get nothing for it.
The only purpose this system serves is to gatekeep progression behind daily/weekly lockouts to make it more tempting for players to outright purchase Battle Pass ranks with money.
I don’t mind the xp only through challenges… I just hope they have more variety of challenges than MCC which basically has the same weekly challenges with little variation

People hate it in MCC though. Also, MCC has a system of 1 challenge = 1 BP level. That is not the case for infinite because it has a progress bar that requires multiple challenges to level up once.

I do not get this point. I do not care what 343 does or does not take from other games so long as it makes an enjoyable experience that is still reminiscent of Halo. But also, they did take this from other games. This is a common malicious practice in games-as-a-service. It turns the game into a series of chores and often forces players to play game modes they do not care for.
(Edit: I also forgot to mention why games do this: it is for when a player is so close to what they want but cannot get it and they are locked out of progression because they moved much faster than the company wanted. So in order for the player to get what they want, they need to buy BP levels. As I say below, this system is frustrating. And it is specifically designed that way so we will alleviate our frustrations with purchases.)
But what is really makes it frustrating is the limited amount of challenges per day/week/season. It leads to moments where people simply do not progress at all and it is frustrating. This is what people hate about MCC. If you go to MCC’s forums, you will frequently find posts requesting leveling to give season points beyond level 100 because the weekly dry spells of no progress is annoying.
Of course, we play the game for the game itself and not for the progress, but this artificial throttling entices us to plan our weeks around the game. I feel like I am not optimizing my time when I need to plan my time around scheduled challenges. I just want to progress at my own pace, you know?

The MCC system works for a legacy game however not a new one. You also can choose what to unlock whereas Infinite it’s linear.
Not being able to constantly grind XP simply by playing is gonna feel bad. What if your daily challenge requires you to play a mode you just don’t like? Does that mean you don’t get any XP for that day? Also, earning XP just by playing is a nice safety net, since you get XP whether you do great, or totally play like -Yoink-. I hope this gets addressed.

You can refresh a challenge I believe if you don’t like one however your sentiments are on the money. It just seems like a slap in the face to people who want to play the crap out of the game. If you are going to be introducing these systems they need to be more player friendly.
> It seems that XP gain from just playing matches will not be a thing & only doing challenges will allow progression through the Battle Pass.

Kind of disappointed to see, hopefully in the future they can implement something but as Unyshek mentioned challenges will be very difficult to run out of, just gotta hope that is true.
This is horrible decision making on 343s part

I don’t get the decision making on this. They hurt themselves by not elaborating these systems. It’s like they are putting themselves out there without having concrete plans to see how the community reacts, but in return it just creates bad PR.
It’s an artificial cap on players progress as already seen in MCC. Regardless how much actual te you put in or regardless if you play better then the average player, you are all at the same time constraint of challenges, especially if they have to refresh weekly like MCC.

MCC is a legacy game however and does not have a linear battle pass. I understand why people want to compare the two however the systems are different especially the goal of each. Halo Infinite will rely on retention far more than MCC and therefore needs to keep people engaged like Fortnite and Apex.
