Challenge Discussion: Harder & Rewarding

Please read all of this before judging. Also add to these ideas if
you think challenges should be harder and more rewarding.

The challenges in Reach are really just not a challenge. I hope 4 will change this to keep
the players trying to achieve something more difficult and that has a great payout.

The definition of a challenge:

-A challenge is a general term referring to things that are imbued with a sense of <mark>difficulty and victory.</mark>

Challenges need to be harder:

Almost every challenge in Reach is fairly easy to achieve and the weekly challenges
just take time.

I think they should make challenges harder and actually make less of them.

We need to have that feeling of victory/success when you achieve a challenge
that many wouldn’t be able to achieve.

The weekly challenge should really be Extremely hard.

The REWARDS:

Not every challenge should give you credits or points. They should make some of the weekly challenges
worth actually trying to get.

Example:

Weekly challenge -Beat the campaign on legendary solo.

Reward: <mark>Specialization Unlock (Random) or helmet unlocked</mark>

The fact that you could unlock something rewarding that you could show off
would make more people actually try to achieve them.

How many times have you seen “beat a campaign mission blah blah blah…reward 3,000 credits”

^ This above makes these challenges repetitive and boring.

Maybe instead of just weekly they could have a monthly challenge.

A monthly challenge could have a great reward. I really like the Mass Effect 3 packs that you get
after playing so many matches.

Monthly challenge:

  • A challenge that is extremely hard with a awesome victory item.
  • Since its a monthly challenge people who actually achieve this would be lower
  • Unlock new skins/upgrades or specializations.
  • Some items could stand out since less would actually beat the challenge.

Not only could they introduce more players to actually feel like completing a challenge
but to feel like the challenge was worth it.

Mass Effect 3 has a weekend challenge every now and then that the community could get if everyone
took part in a certain goal. This would also be great for a monthly challenge.

Example:

Community challenge: (either weekend challenge or monthly)

  • Play a total of 1 million matches.
  • 117,000,000 kills or deaths.
  • Beat the campaign solo legendary 1,000,000

But in order to achieve the challenge you actually have to complete the goal yourself.
This way someone doesn’t just get the challenge even when they haven’t beaten the challenge
when it was made.

I agree a challenge should be a CHALLENGE.

I also love the idea of being able to unlock stuff for completing really
hard challenges.

The monthly challenge sounds like a great idea and i also like
the community challenge idea because its similar to the mass effect 3 community missions.

Challenges shouldn’t be easy because then they aren’t a challenge =]

I would love to have good challenges that are actually a real challenge instead of getting a certain amount of kills on MP!
It’d be good especially if they reward you for completing the challenges!

LASOs were challenging enough. Now you want SLASOs?! Man, what is this world coming to?!

LASOs were challenging but that wasnt the only challenge that you tried to beat.

There were numerous pointless challenges that were extremely easy.

Also LASOs was given to many time just on different maps.

You also missed the whole point of this thread as i was also talking about
better rewards but you didnt even mention that.

Challenges are something extra for people to go for if they need extra SP. Yes some of them should be hard to get, but not all of them. Form time to time we should get really hard challenges but not every week. It will burn a lot of people out.

Larger rewards and harder challenges will both be boosted towards.

i agree that not every challenge has to be extremely hard. Thats why i said that monthly challenge or every other weekend challenge.

Most of the challenges in reach were dumb and werent even hard to get. I want more
challenges that are harder not extremely hard but hard enough to where im happy when
I complete them.

I understand most people dont like challenges that are to hard but challenges like “100 kills in MM” or “link up with b.net account… for 1 cr” really lol.

The challenges for completing games are dumb to. Why not ones that are worth getting.

The one thing I want is variety in challenges and not basic grinding ones.

I hate easy challenges as well.

But what I hate more are the LASOs that I ALWAYS do, and yet don’t recieve ANYTHING for them (@Reclaimer).

I would recieve probably 3-4x the amount of credits in Matchmaking.

My biggest complaint with the challenges in reach was that many weren’t rewarding enough to even bother for. A couple matchmaking games got me the same amount of credits a challenge that would take over a half hour to complete in campaign or firefight etc. would earn me.

Aside from that, I definitely agree with the OP’s ideas. Instead of constantly having a bunch of simple “challenges”, make weekly and/or monthly ones that are actually significantly difficult to complete with equally significant rewards. And of course have less difficult challenges for the not so good players so they don’t feel terrible.

I will agree they should be harder –
With that said I never really found myself going for them I was just playing and if I got a few extra credits cool but nothing to make me want to play a different playlist or game type just to get it …

I would prefer something like Halo 3’s double xp weekend or similar

That was the problem with them. It was always like 2000 cR to go out of your way in firefight and waste like a half hour, instead of just completing a matchmaking game in like a third the time and making like 3k+ cR.

Here’s an idea: They could have challenges of different ranks; easy, normal, heroic, and legendary. (or bronze, silver, gold, onyx) The easy and normal challenges would be your typical reach daily challenges in how common and difficult they are, but your heroic ones would be notably hard/rewarding and a little less common, and your legendary ones would be uncommon but very hard and rewarding.

And of course keep track of how many of each difficulty you’ve completed.

Challenges should replace what matchmaking achievements we dont have.

I want challenges that don’t massively affect gameplay. Getting betrayed for a weapon because it’s the challenge to get kills with it, is not fun. All the people ignoring objectives in pursuit of a daily challenge too.

Kill X Players in Slayer modes.
Win X games of CTF.
Win a game of CTF without the enemy scoring.
Earn 3 Steaktaculars.

You know, things that will motivate players to play. In their own way. Without games for the challenges.

really like these ideas and i agree.

There needs to be something that motivates you to want to get the challenge and it should
reward you more as well.

A challenge that is hard with a good reward would make you happy and content if you unlocked
an awesome new thing.

Yes and no. I do agree that the challenges should be more challenging as you say. But for me. Well I barely got that double kill weekly challenge for reach. Not because I couldn’t get em. (i got over 150 today alone). But because I work, have school, workout, go out. In other words I have a life and simple challenges sometimes were good enough to get. I’m just saying not all of us have that amount of free time.

Hell no to the armor effects in halo 4, but I do like this idea.

Going along with the challenge difficulty idea I just mentioned, I’d like if they had a little selection of like 3 armor sets you could choose from each time you completed a legendary challenge. Or maybe like one legendary set of armor, and each time you complete a legendary challenge you can choose a piece from the set.

The challenges have to be difficult enough though. Like only the best would be completing em.

Yeah the armor effect was just an example. I dont mind the flaming helmets but the others
were a bit to much. Maybe a unique armor/weapon piece or skin for beating a hard challenge.
