I’m only saying what articles are saying.
Do your research. I’m a Halo since CE player, kid. Just spreading the news.
They’re planning to take advantage of Forge to turn our user generated content into matchmaking content.

Personally I feel like there’s a lot of other balancing and mechanics that will be needed to make a Battle Royale for Halo not only viable but able to compete with a lot of the other F2P titles out there. In my personal opinion, a Halo Battle Royale carries too much of a risk for 343 to devote efforts to it and then fail as opposed to making a mode that they had previously implemented (Warzone/Dominion) and let players iron out the more troublesome details and see if they can get the BR genre pick up some steam.
If a Battle Royale actually looks like it’ll be successful and popular, then I say go for it. I’d just rather 343 focus on things other than that while letting the players have a crack at it in Forge.
Don’t really know what the problem is here. If 343 decides to add a matchmaking for custom content I’m fine with that. Let creators enjoy the fruits of their labor with the possibility of kicking off something big in the greater playerbase. God knows there’s been some crazy fun things in MCC ever since it went to PC and players were able to implement some crazy mods and gamemodes with them.
Like having Used Map Settings in the Warcraft 3 days, lol.
Honestly, when someone throws out the ‘kid’, they tend to lose ethical credibility than they do gaining it.
They used “You’re obviously new to Halo” as their argument, so I used “kid” as counter stupid banter. People use “New to Halo” on any post that they disagree with
No the problem is you acting as though this is unusual or wrong for them to do. Again, they’ve been putting Forge maps in matchmaking since 2007, they’ve been putting custom games into matchmaking for even longer. Have we digressed so much as a community that we’re trashing on Forge or Custom Games now?
If you’ve been saying this since CE that’s sad man. Those are features/benefits to Halo, not problems lol. Using your logic like half of the gametypes/modes in Halo should be removed from matchmaking.
I mean…
Yeah…
Not the issue. The issue is people are flooring 343 left and right over lacking content in Infinite, so their solution may just be to use Forge to supply maps and modes, and people will just forgive them for it, but those map and mode creators will get zero credit for it. It’s worse if Forge turns out to actually be paid with microtransactions as speculated. If 343 made a Customs Browser, that would be fine and cool, but that isn’t what they’re doing. If featured content creators got special emblems or something, that might be cool, but I doubt that too. I suspect basically they just take them for matchmaking. No credit, no gratitude.
Are you seriously suggesting they should be paid for their efforts?
The reward they get is having the maps they created be enjoyed (or despised) by far more people.
Now I don’t necessarily hate the idea of Forge contests or what have you, but I’d rather Forge just stay around as an altruistic/fun mode that people do for fun and not for some corporate tax incentive, would just ruin the mode’s spirit I feel.
Giving users a space to create and distribute their content is never a bad idea. If anything, that’s why a lot of people are unhappy with not having Forged right now because they were always able to do that.
Possible detractions at the moment - specifically its implementations - are purely speculation, such as microtransactions, with no validity until we actually see what the outcome is. Once that happens, then 343 will get blasted/praised as deserved and - for their own sake - will make the sensible changes if the former. But right now, the basic idea of what’s being proposed is not what I consider bad.
I don’t believe it is likely they would be interested in monetizing Forge mode. Just on the common sense level I don’t think it adds up. Like, if they really wanted to do that why didn’t they focus more on it and get it done already? Surely if that was their strategy they would’ve released Forge day 1.
What I do believe is a good possibility though is that maybe they’ll tie it to the Campaign, so users could only use it if they have the Single player (because lots of the assets would be carried over) so in other words it would basically be paid
The problem with is that how would someone that didn’t purchase the MP play the Forge maps that used Campaign assets? Nah, I think they’ll just make everything free.
I didn’t know the upcoming maps for S2 (5) were player created maps.
And I also didn’t know that the 40+ gamemodes that they are planning (intro announcer lines are in the game files) were player created.
Lol, take off your tin foil hat dude, it doesn’t look good on you
I find it highly unlikely that they would monetize Forge and even with the small percentile chance that they would, that would unleash quite the firestorm of Hell upon them in my opinion.
But we’ll see how that goes.
cant believe i never played that custom game. I think youre dead on but I dont understand the negativity. I think its the flood mode.
Didn’t say that. I quoted CA.
With Forge will bring a new playlist that features creator maps and modes. Read.
Yeah, you did
No I literally never said the Season 2 maps and 40+ modes with voices are user generated. You pulled that out your rear. I said user generated content will be featured when Forge comes, most likely without credit given. They can’t possibly supply an ample amount of content in time for Season 2. This is the bandaid solution. They may be bringing Infection and other modes with Season 2, maybe some maps, but it won’t be enough to satisfy people.
Wrong. Game is dying because no new ranked modes or maps.
And like others have said, the devs behind Halo (Bungie/343) have been doing this since CE.
+5 maps
+4-5 gamemodes
That is a good chunk of gamemodes, lol
That’s what I’ve read, I think.
Why are they working on another mode?
Is it in addition to Forge, or is Forge already done?
Perhaps unpopular opinion on here, but Halo survives on ranked alone when it is in a very unhealthy state, not a healthy one. If all but the die-hard ranked community have left the game, it’s already dead.
That said, I 100% agree that we need more ranked playlists & gamemodes.
But that’s a small part of a much bigger problem. There’s just no content in general to keep people coming back. We have the barebones modes from Halo 1 right now and that’s kinda it. That was fine in 2001 but the fps market has moved on big time in the last 20 years. Halo is healthiest when we have a variety of ranked playlist, a variety of core “social” playlists, a few of the more ancillary social playlists (infection, grifball etc.), a coop campaign and a more arcadey pve or pvpve mode, forge, and working customs.
Right now from that list we have a single ranked playlist and just the core social playlists and that’s it. That’s a pitiful amount of multiplayer content for any halo beyond halo 1. No wonder it can’t retain its playerbase.
It’s supposed to be a Spartan Ops/ Survival mode. I could be wrong though.
