Certain Affinity FFA Forge Contest Question

I was curious about how submissions deal with lighting. My map I’m building is on impact due to the usefulness of the Impact specific forge pieces.

My question is whether the dynamic lighting has to be intact or not?
The map would be very dark in the majority of play area with lighting on.

I’m curious if we can do the 2 second “spawn structure items in after the dynamic lighting is generated” trick, or even if 343 can remove the dynamic lighting from the map alltogether to make it bright and play much better; if the map is selected to be a finalist.

Please help clarify!

Sincerely, GTF

I’m not sure on the dynamic lighting issue. However, I do know that 343 will not be editing any maps submitted to them. If you think it could cause an issue, I’d personally fix it the best I can and hope it works.

They didn’t mention lighting, but they said they were going to test the map in split-screen to see if it has noticable framerate isuues…if your map has broken lightning i’m going to assume it is not going to pass the Split-screen test.

Thanks guys, I think I’ll be able to finish the map with lighting intact, I just don’t like how dark the map could feel. It’s designed to have more verticle gameplay. Sort of like a mix between epitaph and prisoner. So there are high walls which means lots of shadows… But there will be no ceiling. Hopefully it wont be too dark.

It would however be nice if they did slightly edit the map! But a forger can dream…

You should make use of lighting though. They’re a great way to make orientating yourself on your map easier. I made the mistake of making mine on erosion and without external light and the all-brown forge pieces, i’m having a hard time making different portions of the map distinguishable at first glance when you spawn.

Need map testers and or help?

As of right now I don’t need any testers, I wont finish the map for another couple days.(: But I may need some during next week. Just message me on XBL and I’ll toss you an invite from there when testing happens.

I still wish that lighting could somehow be turned off… at least if it gets into the top ten.

The map feels pretty dark, but you don’t notice it too much once you’re playing on it already.

Lighting Orbs are a plus and negative because they help lighting a little bit, but also cause framerate… And not to mention things are still dark, just slightly lighter and a different color.

This might help:

How can Forged maps pass a split-screen test when, from what I’ve been hearing, most of the defaults can’t? :\

I have a map that need s some testers if anyone is willing to help just hit me up on xbox with message saying forge or something to do with this contest
