So I was looking through my armor sets one and day was looking at the Centurion set (Fred’s armor) and how it’s based on Chief’s. Then I got to thinking, since Fred’s armor is based off of Chief’s, wouldn’t that techinically make it Mark 7 armor?
Chief’s armor was made/upgraded by Cortana, which to me is the reason why we can’t use it on our Spartans. But we can use Fred’s. His is created by the UNSC and is based off Chief’s current armor, which to me makes it Mark 7.
I also discussed this with a couple of my friends when I thought of this and it also got them thinking about it too. Just and interesting theory.
The Chief, and the rest of Blue Team, wear Mark VI armor with GEN 2 updates. To my knowledge none of the armors in Halo 5 are Mark VIIs (completely seperate armor system from GEN 2). Kinda confusing, I know 
Ninja explained it well. I think it’s helpful to think of Fred’s as a variant of Chief’s armor rather than a template on which an entirely new armor set was built.
This might serve to provide a bit more info. Although, as of the general date of those posts, things aren’t clear on the exact differences between Gen. 2 and Mark VII. I’d also read another post that suggests Mark VII is a one-off armor set that was later abandoned in favor of Gen. 2. Not sure how far that’s true.

I see your guys’s point, but I meant like could it be considered that. Like how there is the gen 1 and gen 2 mark 6 in halo 5. I know it would be gen 2 armor like all the new armor sets we have, but would it just be a continuation of the “mark” line, just for the sake of, idk like spartan history. And my theory on it being based on Chief’s is kinda how the mark 6 gen 2 was formed. Cause even that has differences from Chief’s actual mark 6 (the shoulder pads for example).
I just figured maybe it was based on Chief’s armor after Spartans or the unsc saw his armor when he was on Requiem or something. Hell, in halo 4’s ending they do take Chief’s armor off. I figured maybe they studied it and then based the centurion armor off of what they found from that. Idk, to me tho it will be a spiritual mark 7 anyway.
Also remember, Cortana upgraded the suit. The rest of blue team would have more than likely had to get completely new ones. That and also they wouldn’t even have had mark 6. As far as I know only chief was able to get mark 6, correct me if I’m wrong. But to m knowledge when blue team was found they would have still only had mark 5, and back then I’m actual cannon the spartan sets (at least spartan 2’s) all had the same armor.
