Halo: Combat Evolved lacked netcode, hence why they’re using Reach’s multiplayer (along with not splitting the community). However, the lack of netcode applies to campaign as well, so how does this work? Did they design netcode for Campaign? If so, how good is it? Will online co-op be a lagfest still?
There won’t be 4-player co-op.

How big will online co-op be then? Because they’ve already confirmed it.

It’s confirmed to be 2-Player, both Splitscreen and on Xbox Live.

Ok then, but back to my question. The netcode. Does it suck?
There’s no saying whether or not it sucks until November 15, 2011, but yes, they did write a new netcode for the online cooperative mode.

I’m just worried about how well CE, and CEA by extension, can handle online co-op

Since it’s 2-player only, i.e. one host and one client, it will basically just come down to how good each player’s connection speed is. IIRC the main reason Bungie didn’t include online co-op in H2 was because the average internet connection at that time couldn’t really handle the amount of data the host had to upload to its client(s), i.e. movement and position of enemies, whom/what they were shooting at, changes in the environment (new weapons and grenades being dropped by killed enemies, objects like shade turrets or crates being toppled over, etc.), and so on. But nowadays that shouldn’t be a problem at all.

Ok, that’s good.
