Do you guys not playtest this stuff? Did you even touch the audio otherwise? How did you not realise it’s broken just by loading up CE?
Now I have to wait months upon months just to play CE again because the audio’s broken. Strafing left to right while shooting makes the fire sound like it’s coming solely from one speaker. It’s really jarring. The directional audio wasn’t like this before. The audio was working perfectly fine 20 years ago so maybe just leave it how it is?
If you guys did regular updates I wouldn’t be so bothered, but I have no idea when the next one may come and so now I don’t want to play campaign until you maybe decide to fix something probably quite simple. Also, the right stick deadzone is broken. How does this even happen?
I don’t typically like to be rude with things like this but it’s tiring when things that shouldn’t be touched in the first place are wrecked.
I’d like to know how they break random things like this too. This may not be fixed for a while man. In controller settings you have the option for “Modern” or “Classic” aiming style, and Classic for CE has been broken since Season 2, when CEA came out on the PC. No matter what sensitivity setting you set it to in classic it turns extremely slow. I’ve submitted a ticket for it twice and it’s still broke today. No one over there cares about it, so I’m forced to use modern. Hopefully this issue is more important and they do something about it.
That’s now been added to the known issues article on the Halo Support website: https://support.halowaypoint.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049856611-Halo-Combat-Evolved-Known-Issues
Also worth noting that the music (remastered version) is also broken, it loops and blends incorrectly (not really sure how to describe it, but you’ll notice it when playing through the first level). Seems to be fine when using Classic music.
The audio mix for weapon sounds is indeed messed up, as the OP states, it randomly moves around the speakers as you shoot, sometimes behind you, sometimes from the left etc…
This only seems to be a problem when using the classic sound effects, the remastered sounds seem, from my limited testing, to be working correctly.
So to avoid these issues, play CE with Remastered graphics and sound effects and have Classic music enabled. Which unfortunately is the exact opposite of how i like to play!
Not sure if any of the music problems have been fixed, but the issue of stuffed directional audio has now been fixed. That was quicker than I expected. Thanks, 343i.
The SFX for the guns firing in Jenkin’s cutscene have gone missing in Classic graphics and also the Pelicans’ engines SFX in the intro cutscene of The Silent Cartographer, also in Classic graphics (played on Xbox One X).
I’ve submitted a ticket for both these issues on Halo Support some time ago, after the last patch.
Also, during some cutscenes, it seems that the sound “pops” when heard through my headphones, such as during the intro to The Library, in Classic experience.
Maybe the sound team will look into this and patch things up for the late summer release.
