Caught a loophole?

Not sure the exact place to post this as it relates to both Halo 3, the future of Halo and Cortana herself, move if need be of course.

Was just playing through 3’s campaign as I downloaded it, just finished The Covenant level, after you and Arbiter jump down the shaft Chief walks off “seeing” something, even Arbiter asks what he sees. As John turned the corner a flash of Cortana appears briefly hinting at activating the switch in front of her. Now yes she’s currently in High Charity that crashed. That said, did a part(s) of her get into the Arks system? She learned ALOT from the Gravemind just before this, perhaps he knew a method or she did by herself? And if so, maybe a part of her is indeed on the Ark still? Or is it “messages” she was sending through the Arks system to Chief. Or was it just in his head? I think the latter is less likely than the others.

Now I’m not for her to be brought back, kind of ruins the end of 4. But I am ok with a small portion of her appearing one more time for a short period, maybe Chief being a “Human” now can get closure lol?

The argument I have with myself here is if some of her was in the Arks system, wouldn’t she of said something during the end of 3/throughout 4’s campaign? Is it even possible? This is simply a speculation I haven’t seen posted here, by my eyes anyway.

-Typed on my iPhone, lol.

I think it was a combination of a lot of different things.
When he didnt have cortana he hallucinated of her. And it could also be his genes that the librarian placed on him and from his memory he cant recall.

True that. I’m posting this as curious to everybodys feedback.

Chief definitely has something weird going on in his head… Remember the Cortana hallucinations of Halo 3? What about the Gravemind and Didact talking directly to Chief (in Didact’s case at least- off any sort of comm. channel)? Or how about Cortana whispering to Chief after her console blew up on Midnight?

True, but what of the brigt Cortana blue light lighting up the shaft to jump down? Was her same shade even. And this time he physically saw something.

I honestly wasn’t a fan of the whole hallucinations throughout Halo 3.

the hallucinations i thought were good because it showed chiefs need for cortana.

Although one possiblity is it being Mendicant Bias trying to show the chief that there is a second halo array up

Food for thought

> the hallucinations i thought were good because it showed chiefs need for cortana.

Pretty sure Cortana moments were the Gravemind projecting Cortanas image to talk to Chief

Good idea, I can agree

There is no way Bungie thought THAT far forward. If Cortana was implanted somewhere, it would have happened during Halo 4 (which it may have, but it would be dumb IMO).

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

“Don’t let her go. Don’t EVER, let her go.”

-Johnson

R.I.P.

Did Chief “Let her go” in 4? That’s arguable.

I’m tempted to say it was more mind vision, given how the arbiter didn’t seem to see it. Unless it was only being displayed inside his helmet somehow.

Million dollar question?

Was it not MB giving Chief directions via hacking into his HUD when we saw the hallucinations on the Ark?

Due to Cortana starting her rampancy when she was hacking Inst. IV, and because she learned how to clone herself in First Strike, I believe that Cortana has left a “child” of herself somewhere.

This clone/child is likely just a copy of her emotions and memories with John but little else but a few abilities she learned from Covenant and Forerunner tech.
This would give Cortana’s clone a very similar attitude as her original BUT she is also likely to be very lonely (and getting rampant herself) due to not being near the only true memory she has.

Can you imagine knowing you “love” someone but don’t know why, nor do you know why you have certain abilities but lack the knowledge to control those abilities (at least at first)?
Nor do you know why you’re where you are (wherever that may be)?

Makes me sad

Halsey’s log at the star of Halo 4 confirms that Cortana may have had the ability to outlast rampancy. I don’t think they would toss a bone like that in and then just destroy her.

I was thanking about this very same thing when I went back to H3’s story a few days ago. The only thing I was able to come up with was that 343GS was projecting Cortana. My reasoning for this is that the comic series Halo Bloodline shows us that monitors can mess with a Spartan’s visor causing them to see whats not there. Also he is hiding in the room were the switch was.

Never knew that USS Command.

She did last 9 years unlike the usual 7. But she still experienced rampancy, though arguably became metastable in her final moments.

Even basic A.I. were able to outlast the 7 year limit. The A.I. in the rubble existed for more than a decade by focusing on her tasks. So it has to be more than that.

Not only did she last longer than 7, she had already been fed immense amounts of information from Installation 04, and then later the Gravemind. She was already pretty close to rampancy before.
