Cat ears have shown that og halo fans have lost the fight

I don’t care. If they wanna spend, let them.
I only care if we get primary and secondary colours back.

But thats the issue. As long as people keep spending money on this stuff, it tells the developers that the most profitable option is to keep charging for this stuff. Which means eventually you wont get ANYTHING unless you start shelling out.

You fail to understand that OG Halo has long been buried with H5.

Nothing we do will stop 343’s demonic monetization. I’ve already talked about the entire cat ears bundle ruining the hard work of us who were fighting to get store prices dropped.

At this point I don’t care anymore.

yeah i dunno why they removed that with armor coatings we could have had so much more customization they should have been presets and we could choose each color seperately like the old custom colors and the coatings should have been presets, and buying or unlocking others gave us more colors to choose from.

Reach wasn’t free, therefore nothing in it was free. I’m assuming you meant that there wasn’t an additional charge for the effect, but it is an important distinction given every gameplay aspect of Infinite MP is free so comparing its content to a full priced title is apples to oranges.

Several “OG Halo fans”, while annoyed by MTX are simply playing the game because they’re enjoying it (outside of the standing technical issues), and any “OG Halo fan” will remember a time when you played Halo because it was Halo, not to flex your cosmetics.

Not saying there aren’t legit issues surrounding the pricing of some items in the store, the sparsely populated battlepass, and the progression/challenge system, but at least keep your comparisons accurate.

I remember quite vividly when I played Halo because it was Halo, and this just isn’t Halo. I don’t have to cite the insulting monetization to say this isn’t Halo, the changes made to core gameplay mechanics like the radar and movement make it not Halo.

The issues surrounding the pricing of the store aren’t the problem, the issue is the fact that the store exists at all in the first place. The game is a shameless vehicle for microtransactions.

Plenty of people seem to disagree, with several posts saying this was the best Halo gameplay since Halo 3. Regardless, that’s purely subjective and if you’ve been around Halo related forums for any meaningful amount of time you’d know every Halo sequel since Halo 2 has been “ruining Halo” or “not Halo” at release. Then oddly enough that installment becomes well regarded once the followup drops. That side of the issue is nearly as old as the franchise.

This game isn’t even the worst title on the market in terms of mtx, let alone the first game to do it. It’s a market trend that’s years old at this point. Granted, it’s a very frustrating one, but it’s one that has its foothold in people supporting it with their wallets. This nonsense wouldn’t persist if it didn’t work. At least Infinite’s mtx are all cosmetic, with every playable aspect of the MP being free. I’d much rather drop a separate $60 (or even up to $80) for the MP if it meant no mtx and only money to be spent would be on major content expansions, but that hasn’t been a consumer norm for years.

i’m not what you would call a ‘og’. started playing Reach during the time of 4/5. but… that being said, to heck with all this f2p clear cash grab halo has turned into
‘oh, but it’s a business, obviously they need the money’ and? we shouldn’t accept that! i see it like this: there’s player first on one side, and money on the other. a game can have both, look at games of old. good or decent player first, but it was also making a profit from the game sales AND DLC. because, low and behold, people will buy a good game! a good player first game, will also raise a lot of cash. how else do you recon games like halo or cod even kiced off? not because of a stupid f2p and bp, because they were good games!
but noooo, they gotta go with the f2p, bp, overly priced shop of a trend. just to get more money. and i repeat, WE SHOULD NOT ACCEPT THIS. no money first. i’m not asking for complete player first. but holly spark, the past has shown we can have our cake and eat it too. both money and player first.
super mario and sonic have (for the most part) kept on making fun games, and they keep selling, making somewhat of a profit to make another. why can’t halo keep on doing that? oh yeah… because moneysoft = greed

Og fan here (played halo 1 multiplayer with my older cousin and started with halo 2 once I got an xbox) the cat ears are funny and I enjoy them also halo has had silly stuff since halo 2 and if you want to use the armor excuse the elite assault helmet in halo 3 is literally shaped like a -Yoink!- and let’s not forget how e.o.d was referred to as the monkey helmet

“At least Infinite’s mtx are all cosmetic”

Doesn’t matter, I already explained why. Microtransactions fundamentally change core gameplay, features, modes, progression etc. by simply being there at all, it doesn’t matter that they’re “”""""""""“JUST”""""""""" cosmetic.

Its all the same, its anti-consumer BS. FFS compare MCC and Halo Infinite for all for 15 seconds, its beyond stupid how horrible Infinite is in comparison in terms of modes, featues and progression. And what’s the difference? Oh, right, Infinite is monetized and has microtransactions! MY MIND IS BLOOOOOOOOWN!!1!!!11!one

To be fair, they did pull a bit of a bait and switch on us. Introduced all these awesome customization options for decades and then just locked it all behind a paywall. A little nefarious considering they are fully aware of how important the customization is to the fanbase.

And so what if its only cosmetic? Its another layer of the game. Sure it might not affect mechanical gameplay but it adds incentive to play and gives you another layer to play for and isnt that what gaming is all about? Playing because its fun and you enjoy what youre doing and what youre getting from it?

I can speak for myself, thank you. And so can everyone else. I’m curious, by what criteria do you deem someone an “OG fan”?

That’s not a bait-and-switch, that’s just blatant paywalling of content that used to be previously available as part of buying and owning the game. I can’t make my own emblem now, its monetized? Sweet boiling christ what is this absolute anti-consumer bullplop?

Oh, right, the same absolute anti-consumer bullplop permeating the rest of this anti-consumer, manipulative and predatory game that exists first and foremost to sell cosmetics via micropayments.

“I am angry therefore I speak for everyone reeeeee”
Seeing so many Arguments start with “Real fans/original fans/true fans…:” Your opinion is not the opinion of everyone else, not even the people who played Halo 1 on a almost trashed PC when their Brother got it from a friend, not from somone who played since Halo3 or whatever.

While I think there is a fair argument to be made regarding mtx impacting game design in a general sense, how have Infinite’s “core gameplay, features, and modes” specifically been impacted by them? None of them are paywalled, and at this point there is no reason to assume any actual gameplay mode will be. I’d get the argument if we were still limited to the modes that dropped at “beta” launch, and were gonna have to pay for more, but that wasn’t the case.

This is where you lost me. Full retail for one visual remaster and 3 ports, that was effectively broken for years in terms of online gameplay (its primary selling point), and then ($10, $15?, can’t remember) for another port (Reach) to the game that still had those same, prevalent issues until they were finally addressed. MCC came around after years, and even now the only good thing about its approach to progressive unlocks is that they’re included in the price of admission.

On that last point, I think Infinites real issue born of mtx/ftp is how it’s challenge and progression system seems blatantly designed to push people towards mtx, and THAT is purely anti-consumer. People being twisted over cosmetics importance in Halo is heavily subjective. Yes, we’ve had more in previous titles, but we’ve also had little to nothing in previous titles, and generally speaking Halo players are here to play Halo, not put on a fashion show.

For my money, Infinite is gonna live or die by what it does going into its second “season”. If co-op doesn’t drop, and function well. If MP functionality isn’t improved and bolstered. If pass content isn’t shored up, and if progression isn’t tweaked to be more realistically achievable WITHOUT any mtx in a normal season, then Infinite is in a lot of trouble.

I don’t think it will take long for we can buy Batman, Wolverine and Ninja Turtles kits in the store.

Maybe I’m trying to find a comparison where there isn’t one, but is it really any different than the map packs we had to purchase in the Halo 2/Halo 3/Halo: Reach/Halo 4 days?

Exactly. I play Halo to unlock stuff because I primarily stick to customs and like to design my spartan based around the mode I’m playing. Infinite just ain’t Halo to me.

The fact of the matter is, you can play Halo Infinite entirely for free. You don’t need to invest a dime.

However, if you want the extra customisation, I found the Battlepass worth the price. The shop prices however aren’t great as of current, but 343 have acknowledged this, and changes will be coming. We should be thankful the game is playable and not boring, Halo’s competitors this year suffering from one if not both of those issues.

Yep, it is sad, but you are right, 343furries is more focused to please fortnite-player than their original fanbase.
