Casual vs Competative Player=>Handicapping?

We’ve all heard of advanced probability algorithms that predict stock market trends, forecast weather, ect. Would it make sense to apply some of these techniques to even the playing field? Could, for example, damage resistance increase for mismatched teams so that a 4 on 2 due to quitting/booting becomes fair. Or perhaps casual players can have increased damage against high ranked players based on player statistics and trends?

I propose that an experiment be conducted when Halo 5 G gets released to see if something like this can work to make the game fun for everyone. I’m tired of playing against stacked teams, when teammates quit or idle, when playing against or with novices players.

How about as you lose royally, the server applies a handicap on your behalf that is proportional to the sum strength of the apposing team. Or proportionate to the sum loss of teammates?

Another though: Halo 5 Beta had a ranking system. Why not allow it to work for the player in certain situations?

*loss

Other than the annoying spelling error, this is the worst idea I have ever heard.

Says the one who uses “I have” instead of “I’ve”. You must be British.

Uh, what?

It is always more proper to use full words rather than contractions.

Loss is what happens when you are not victorious.

Loose is what your girlfriend is.

Its nice to see you get rattled by the little things. Your so easy. :stuck_out_tongue:

So now that we got that out of the way, does anyone want to address my suggestion to apply handicaps for mismatched teams; be it by numbers or by skill?

I do not like it. I like the challenge of being up against players who are more skilled than I am. I also would prefer to be evenly matched with similar players. If the opposing team happens to have a really skilled player, it makes the match a lot more interesting.

How are we supposed to improve if the game is constantly making matches easier for us?

I see where ur coming from but this is a pretty bad idea instead of trying to change the even fields in game how bout trying to make both teams equal preferably finding people that have similar skill sets to u cause i am seriously sick and tired of finding people better then me every time i go too find an online match in every game i play.

Okay, then let me ask you this. Do thing that segregating folks by ranking, like on Halo 3, will help? Please note that my goal is to fond some way for new nubs to not get pawned by skilled players.

BTW, as a skilled player, I can see both your points and like being match with other skilled folks, but what about when your teamed with unskilled players or if some quit? Are you not frustrated by this? There is no balance; especially when the opposing team hordes power weapons.

And I for one hate losing.

I think H3 had the best ranking system. I honestly don’t remember being matched with terrible players and my team always seemed adequate enough.

The problem is not just matching with bad people. In my opinión, i feel much better when i’m playing with people that are really “teamates” and support you instead of being each one on their own and getting killed by a compenetrated opposing team.

While I understand your point, especially while playing the beta ( though I understand the ranking system probably didn’t do much in the sense of evenly splitting teams) I found that most of my matches my team was either completely outmatched, or easily defeating the other team, Very few close games, I don’t like the idea of “handicapping” lesser players. It’s almost like rewarding them for being bad at the game? But I do feel your pain, and hope the ranking system in Halo 5 splits teams up more consistently.

OMG this thread…

Wait, is that a bad thing?

*you are or you’re

My god man. Go to school. No wonder you want to handicap people who are better at things than you are.

I guess this is subjective…because based on your service record on here it seems like you’d be the one receiving the handicap…and from an actual skilled players perspective you would see that the idea of potentially losing to someone who is much worse than you just because “wah no fair he better than mee!” got some code placed into the game.

It would be the extinction of anything left resembling competitive play in Halo

Regardless, this idea is unnecessary. Ranking systems are designed to match you with people of equal skill. All they need to do is improve the search parameters they have in place and it will be fine. H2A doesn’t use one currently because of the fail launch.

NO, we wouldn’t need this if the ranking system was actually used to get equal matches, instead of being a d!ck measuring tool.

I don’t care if some guy is onyx 2, I’m gold 3 the game should ONLY match me with gold 3

Handicaps? No thank you.

Are you a person? That was probably the dumbest thing I have ever read. You are clearly not a ‘skilled player’ if you are suggesting this. If you don’t wanna get slapped by me then start running with a team and stop crying. Get good kid, you butt.
