Casual Gamers Are Also Disappointed..

Ok, I see many of the ‘Competitive’ players hate on Halo recently because now the game overtly appeals to casual gamers. They believe aspects introduced to the series from Reach have ruined the game, made it more noob friendly, less competitive and overall to easily accessible for casual gamers.

I have always disagreed with these so called ‘real fans’ or ‘competitive community’ because the aspects introduced in Reach (armour abilities and such) suited me as a self professed ‘casual gamer’. I enjoyed being able to access the game and having a great time getting kills without having to dedicate too much time developing ‘skill’.

Therefore Reach for me was a great game! (although i know for many it was terrible - i really enjoyed it).

However

HALO 4 IS EVEN BAD FROM A CASUAL PERSPECTIVE

Honestly, you competitive players may hate this game because you think it is tailored to much towards players like me, but the depth of this games problems go far beyond its apparent appeal to mass markets and casual gamers!

So excluding superficial aspects such as loadouts, DMR superiority, Boltshot, ordinance drops, insta spawn and join in progress (amongst many other complaints).

This game sucks at it’s very core.

Even as a casual gamer i can not turn i blind eye to the VERY poor quality of matchmaking. I get ~LAG in every single game (i have taken steps to ensure it is not my internet connection or ISP issues). A problem many encounter with this game. It is unacceptable that a AAA game these days can not even provide quality matchmaking. - A game destroyer in my opinion.

Other issues such as:

Poor maps (everyone picks Ragnarok - coincidence that it is the only map not developed by 343?)

Repetitive map rotation - (the same maps get picked over and over gain) why are maps so limited on this game? (dont get started on the whole map pack 1 month after release, free of charge - buy and play bs)

One dimensional gameplay: Why take away vehicles from previous titles? Why not add more vehicles? Why not have a map that can rival BF3? Air to Air battles, open maps and multi-layered gameplay. (Maybe it is only people who have played and enjoyed BF3 will understand the depth of what i am aiming at here?)

Poor campaign: Ok this is probably strictly my own personal opinion and wont spend much time debating this. But we did not even get to fight the BIG BOSS!!! Lame…

Spartan Op’s: campaign maps used as mini missions with a voice over (Lag issues again) boring and dull - full of AFKers.

Limited game types: Snipers, Invasion, Double Team?

OK - i know this is a lot to read, and I don’t really expect anyone to read it, but i just want to let you ‘hardcore’ ‘real’ ‘competitive’ players know that it is not just you who are unhappy.

Although you may think this game sucks because it is aimed at people like me who play in a casual fashion, i think this game is bad at its very roots.

Casual gamers are also not happy with this game, as it has been released in a very bad state. Blame this on a lack of a BETA or that it is 343’s first attempt - either way for the reasons listed above (and others) this game is poor. As a causal gamer (NOT a COD fan BTW) i am unhappy with Halo4 just as much as you competitive players - lets be friends and get this mess sorted out!

Peace

I hate using the labelling but as a “competitive player that loves custom game madness as well” I’m happy to see one of you guys write this. I knew we weren’t the only people to be disappointed with the direction the game has been taken, the features that have been stripped away, the lack of certain features and just an all round bad experience in game.#

This game has been catered to one type of player, not a competitive player, not a skilled player, not a “casual” player, but people who need everything spoon fed. I’m sorry, but this game really does hold your hand with everything.

Casual doesn’t = A bad player

I’m a “casual” gamer as well, but please don’t speak for the whole “casual” community.

The game hasn’t taken a necessarily excellent path into a new triology, but this is to be expected with a new company and whatnot. I’m overall happy to play the game and I really like the changes they made.

That being said, I also don’t like the fact they don’t have fileshare up and running. Custom games is one thing Halo is good at and 343i should have seen that when they took over the Halo title.

I also don’t like some of the weapon imbalances in the multiplayer, one of which being the DMR.

The campaigns story telling, in all honesty, I can’t really decide. I just went wherever Cortana pointed me to go. Usually in a campaign, I want to tear the antagonists brains out, but with the Didact, I didn’t really feel the sensation to do that… It could have done a lot better, but is good the way it is.

Spartan ops is a fun experience though. Much better then Firefight and I welcome the addition of Spartan Ops into H4 and hopefully into the future triology.

The Specialization mess was not coordinated efficiently in my opinion. They should have re-thought about how they were going to do it and ask the community if this would be good. (I don’t know I’m really stupid at imputing suggestions.)

The ranking system isn’t the best one and I definitely like Reach’s ranking system a lot more. The H4 ranking system feels like a mini-Reach ranking system that seems to finish so quickly.

I digress; I still feel H4 is a fun game and just needs some work to make it better. I know people don’t want to hear the same thing over and over, but you must have patience. In due time they should have most of the problems fixed.

I know the game was suppose to come fixed with all the current grievances, but we can’t always get what we want. I’m sorry the community doesn’t share my prespective but I hope you all have fun in your future endeavers.

Have a merry Christmas everyone!

I do enjoy a casual experience but Halo 4 has gone too far. You can get the highest rank by doing almost nothing. Why they invented Armor Abilities I have no clue, all they do is slow the game down. And for the maps. For the Lord’s sake make it to where the game picks the map automatically. I don’t want choices because 90 percent the same map is gonna be chosen.

The map selection system is worse than it is in Reach. Going back to AAs. What skill is there to pick camo and camp in a corner somewhere? 343 needs to face the fact that Halo is dying, Halo 4 will slowly drop in population. And by next year if they don’t make big changes it will drop significantly. If players continue to hate on Halo 4 then there is no reason to make part 5.

Before I got hooked on strategy, I had a casual mindset.

That still exists today, in the form of collecting AI, exploring, tricking in general. But Halo 4 just fails to deliver in that area for me.

Invisible barriers, soft kill zones, at least Reach had ways to get past that stuff. Also, I’m severely disappointed about the lack of solid locations outside the map and how frequently the AI get deleted whenever you skip them.

But my greatest concern is the checkpoints. It’s great that 343 restored delaying with melee and the Banshee’s plasma cannon but the removal of timed/infinite checkpoints was uncalled for and makes these changes pointless. It was reintroduced in Reach (from CE) but now it’s completely gone.

you do not speak for me. i am a casual gamer and i like this game.

> you do not speak for me. i am a casual gamer and i like this game.

So you like

  • a match making system that puts skilled veterans against someone who just got the game for Christmas?
  • you like the join in progress system that can put you in a game where you are down by like 15 kills?
  • you like a game that takes away the staple playlist that comes with every halo franchise ( doubles sniper etc)
  • a game where they take away options ( 1-person theathre, can’t drop flag, instantly picking up flag) instead of adding on to it?
It’s great that your experience with this gameis generally positive but atleast admit that there are flaws that frustrate people so that 343 can fix them

> you do not speak for me. i am a casual gamer and i like this game.

In no way do I attempt to speak for you my friend!

In no way did I say I represent the whole spectrum of casual gamers, that would be stupid.

If you misinterpreted me, let me illiterate: I meant - myself as a casual gamer (and after consulting several of my acquaintances whom also regard themselves as casual gamers) have come to some negative conclusions in regards to this game.

I tried to formulate my argument with structure and evidence in order to put across my point, i ask you politely; Do not not disregard my whole argument by assuming i am trying to represent every casual gamer.

If you would like to raise any points in my OP and debate them, or try to persuade me this game is not flawed on its most basic levels, please feel free to do so.

However, at this moment i must still stress that Halo4 suffers from some very negative issues at its core. Also, that these issues go beyond the usual casual Vs competitive arguments.

I feel that both casual and competitive gamers should be able to recognise that the game is flawed in some very fundamental ways, and that as either a casual gamer or a competitive gamer - we are all consumers, and as such we should highlight that this standard of service is unacceptable.

Peace

I just wanted to say, as a long time Battlefield fan, BF3 was extremely shallow for a Battlefield game. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the way you and many other people see Halo 4 compared to previous Halo games is almost exactly the same way Battlefield fans see BF3.

A lot of the complaints are similar: bad maps, perks, gimping of the sandbox, having a campaign (let’s now mention how bad it was either), lower overall complexity.

The more I think about it, the worse I actually think BF3 actually is. The only genuinely good maps were the ones they brought back from BF2 in the Back to Karkand map pack.

Anyway, I agree with you about Halo 4, for the most part. I do actually enjoy it, but I don’t see myself playing it for that long. Something about the game, as a casual player, just doesn’t feel right.

I think one of the best ways to represent how under-cooked Halo 4 is, is simply by taking a note that the game doesn’t even have a working fileshare system or theatre mode right out of the box. That alone shows how much of a huge step backwards things have gone.

Well if anything I wish they had drawn inspiration from BF3 to base Halo 4 on rather than COD.
