Casual gamer parties - sbmm

Casual gamer here from the first halo. I’ve played and enjoyed every halo and was pretty good during highschool/college years. Now, I’m a family man working full time, play casual maybe 2-3 hours a week, ranked platinum w/out any squadmates. I’ve noticed when i play with family that are probably around silver, they have a great time w/out me, get wins, positive k/d’s, all around good time. When I join their lobby, I usually maintain a good k/d but they get creamed badly and we lose everytime. Is this the way todays sbmm works now? I remember back in Halo 3 days, it seemed more random, more averaged out, 1-2 guys far at the top of the board but the rest still having decent games. Or is it because the player pool isn’t as big currently? I’m feeling like i can’t party with them so they can have a good time, leaving me solo, which isn’t very casual for a guy that likes to play with his family. I bought my wife and I the battlepass but feel guilty with the lobbies they put us in…hopefully lobbies will smooth out soon?

Are you playing ranked? It should try to balance skill in BTB and quick play, but ranked goes off the highest rated player.

No it does this in normal modes too I can’t play with my friends either. In BTB and in Quick play
