Before i begin i will state that i like the look of halo 4 and i think it has a skill gap and can be played competitively.
I am writing this to make people understand the competitive/casual argument is not even an argument but a general fact…let me explain.
Casual = Low skill gap
Competitive = High skill gap
competitive mechanics can be played casually
casual mechanics can never be played competively.
competitive mechanics ENSURES best of both worlds with a good matching making system. there is NO CATERING. The only reason casual/dumbed down mechanics exist is purely for profits…why? because a small skill gap ensures that there is no chance a less abled player will be crushed in a game…for example…
2 players start a game one is better than the other at aiming.
-they first play rockets only…the game would probably end 50-40
-change that to snipers no scopes only and the score would probably be 50-19.
the first game is casual mechanics and the second is competitive due to it having a higher skill gap.
The second scenario is favourable because it ensures the better play wins in a margin equal to his skill over his opponent…it has nothing to do with sweating it out, or just wanting to jump around and look at the pretty colours.
casual mechanics is a marketing tactic, so people have little chance of being humiliated and not want to play/buy the game…nothing to do with having fun or wanting to win…
that is all.
