Carry Over?

I read in the Be Fair 343 thread about player and stats carry over

I wanted to make a dedicated thread

What are your thoughts on the following?

Imagine Halo 4 coming out, you play it, alot, you unlock all the armour, get to top rank, then halo 5 comes out

Do it again? Not exactly

Armour
More armour varieties are better. Doubling the armour in Halo 5 from Halo 4 would be great. Yes, disk space is a problem, but let’s ignore that.
You spend all this time unlocking the armour, and it’s you, your personality, the way you want people to see you. So let’s carry it over. Any armour you unlocked in Halo 4 will be unlocked in Halo 5. If you unlock armour in Halo 5, that’s also available in Halo 4, then you unlock it there too. Same to Halo 6, carry yourself over

Rank
There needs to be more ranks. Ranks based on skill, ranks based on play time, etc. This would only apply to play time rank, obviously. But if you get to the top rank in Halo 4, then you should start at a high level in Halo 5. Maybe 10% of your old rank, rounded down?
Reach level 50, start at level 5

Credits too, 10% of your credit amount

fileshare
my god this would be nice. If 343 wants to do so, have Halo 4 maps playable with Halo 4, on the same engine, maybe tweeked spawns and such, so if you make a nice map in 4, play it in 5

Thoughts?

my battery is dieing, if I need to edit, I will later

Good idea, it just depends on how upgraded each game is like, Halo 4 is going to be on the Xbox 360 when Halo 5 will probably be on the next Xbox (720) which means better graphic, new engine etc.

That is very true. But Armour and stats would be on a server, so it would just unlock by name

I still say 343i should increase the File Share to 24 slots for everyone for free… just saying. It was a cheap money grab on Bungie’s part and if there’s one thing Microsoft doesn’t need, it’s more money.

I like the idea of carry over for armor, but rank should be left out, rank shows your skill level, and/or how much of a life you have.

Also, I do think I remember hearing the people on the 343i panel at Halo Fest saying something about them looking into giving people more file share slots for free, and for those Bungie Pro account like people, they get a little extra.

> I like the idea of carry over for armor, but rank should be left out

Totally agree with this.

Also, thanks for reading my thread OP, it’s nice to see that people do take the ideas on board and even expand on them.

If this was bungie, that would totally be sarcasm <3

HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!

> HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!

[Blam!] Yes

> HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!

Do you have a reason for objecting?

> HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO!

Yeah, why do you say no.
I say if you’re going to post a “no” post in this thread, at lest be kind enough to post a reason why, or you’re just going to be that guy who hates every idea.

Great idea. I posted about this in the feedback thread, so hopefully it is seen.

It seems like a pretty good idea. That way, the “veterans” will be able to keep the armour pieces that took us time to unlock.

NOT the forge maps fileshare thing. I want forge to be better every time not the same engine

>.> so you want 343 to include armor that’s going to be 90% pointless because everyone will have it unlocked by default? What if you just LOVE your armor? Well now what point do you have to the credit system or whatever? What if it was hard to unlock and would’ve provided an amazing but fun challenge? You’re opting to take out value from one game in place of value that was in another game. I just… no.

There are ways to make the carry over system and make it so there’s still a fun challenge.
It’s called adding more armor, more things to unlock. Also, don’t have all of the armor unlocked by a player be carried over, have only the armor the player sets as his finale armor in Reach, the armor he has on his character when the saved data is imported into Halo 4. The carry over system is a great system, that should be in most games, but, not all games should have the same carry over system features. Granted the carry over system suggested in the OP may not be the carry over system that’ll be in Halo, it may not be liked by every one, but to just say no to it, and not say “Hey this is a bad idea, I say no, there is no way this can work” is a great way to take a great idea, and stop it dead in it’s tracks. It’s kind of like having a kid, and then a few years into it’s life, just go “This was a bad idea” and end that life.

Why in stead of just pointing out ways this system can’t work, why not point out ways to make it work, with out it taking away the challenge that is unlocking armor.

Okay. Then here’s my idea then… I don’t like it but if I had no choice and could only change one thing about this idea I’d make it so that there was a limited amount of armor that you could carry over and that it wasn’t a simple "choose your helmet, shoulders, ect. and more of a hey you unlocked a lot of stuff so here’s some cR to get you started and we noticed you really liked this helmet so we’re going to let you use it for free until you reach ____ rank and then you have to unlock/buy it like you would’ve normally had to. Just my thoughts.

Or make it so that the carry over armor is aesthetically different than the unlocked armor… just something that made the unlocked armor useful or more desirable.

Or maybe an armour piece unlocked by having a specific armour piece in Reach? It could be a different one, or the same.

> Or maybe an armour piece unlocked by having a specific armour piece in Reach? It could be a different one, or the same.

Then we run into the same problem with way point being needed for unlocking some armor. If you are a new gamer to Halo, and you see a armor piece you like, but you can’t unlock it because you got to have it unlocked in Reach, and you can’t unlock it cause #1 you don’t have Reach, and #2 you don’t have the rank/creds for that piece.

Also, why expand on what I said in my last post, the armor that is carried over, should either stay unlocked as long as you have it on your Spartan, but as soon as you change your armor, you have to unlock it again in order to stick that piece on your spartan, or you reset you spartan. But if you want to unlock armor you’ve already unlocked, or have on your spartan, it should be priced cheaper.

See I like that. Make it easier to obtain, price it cheaper… whatever, but don’t just hand it out. That makes it harder for those just starting to play and lessens the challenge for those seeking one (the competitive players who have been playing Halo since the beginning…)
