Carbine Tips

After earning the master commendation for the DMR and BR I’ve moved on to the Carbine to finish next. Does anyone have any tips with using it? I usually stick to mid-range and use PV to try to get the jump on them since I feel I’m always at a disadvantage in any fair gunfight, not to mention you have to reload after every kill (the BR and DMR at least allow 2 in 1 clip if you’re accurate.) which I’ve been using Dexterity to help with that. Can any skilled Carbine users help me out here? Whats your Carbine loadout look like? What gametypes/maps does it excel in?

I think bloom or spreads is the word I’m looking for and the carbine has too much of it. It’s so bad I’m trying to use it right now for the commendation and all I’m getting is assists.

The thing that I don’t get is when I was younger and had system link parties I remember the carbine being the most accurate but now it’s not.

So, you wanna master the weakest gun of the headshot weaponry?
Heres some tips:
-Since the CC has the slowest reload time of all the utility rifles (guess who has the fastest?: the DMR) then DEXTERITY as you said, is a must have. youll need Resupply too, because you need more than perfect 8 shot kills to fight against the DMR, and the grenades are perfect for weaken the enemy.
-Due to the way it shoots you may endup shooting one mag without killing your enemy (it happens), and also almost nobody uses the CC, so ammo may be scarce, even if this is true, you must not choose the ammunition specialization, becaue the CC already needs Dexerity to work, and youll want Resupply as a must have for most Loadouts, and if you dont have those or other combat perks to balance the CC, then youll be dead, and all your ammo would not matter at all.
-Choose the Magnum as secondary for the above reason, youll want something to use when you have burned the CC ammo, and if you succesfully become a badass with the CC, then youll be able to kill with anything, including rocks, and the aforementioned Magnum. OR choose the Botshot, since its single shot mode is capable to kill weaken enemies, and its shotgun mode still is super powerful.
-The CC needs 5 body shots after the shields had blown to kill, this means that if an enemy turns back and starts run, he will escape most of the time. Since shoting to the head of an enemy that is backwards with the CC is hard, you must either jump to have a clear line or use the Magnum as a secondary, take advantage of the fast weapon swapping of Dexterity and shot 3 times the guy as fast as posible.
-STRAFE FOR YOUR LIFE. its hard (but possible) to make 8 shot kills with the CC, but even if you do, the BR only needs 0.1 secs of advantage to kill you, and the DMR kills you 0.17 secs faster. And its quite easier to make perfects 5SK with those 2 guns than with the CC. So if you want to win against those guns you must be at least 0.20 secs faster, or be able to dodge 2 bullets from the DMR, or one burst from the BR, So its time to switch to the Bumper-Jumper scheme…
-Shot to the face, the particle effects of the CC can disorient the enemy, however due to the way the gun works you may want to stick to body shots (it requires constant aiming), and only do one final headshot.
-The thing that makes the CC special and harder to use is that it doesnt need to align each shot or burst independently, but instead you must keep the gun pointed consistently at the enemy in order to land all the shots (like an automatic rifle, but without much aiming help), you may want to experience with a lower sensivity first.
-The apropriate range for the CC is: from 5m to 38m, if you manage to do 8 shots kills, youll be able to counter all the automatic guns at any range, providing they dont melee you. And the BR since its harder to use at less than 10m. Again strafing is extremely important.
-Also the gun appears to have some sort of invisible bloom that makes bullets fail after the 50m, yeah that sucks, so dont use it after that. And the zoom is pretty -Yoink- without Stability (becuase if you fail 2 shots youre dead), also the CC does almost no flinch against the enemy.

THATS IT, just remember that the CC and the LR are the hardest to use utility weapons in the Halo sandbox, and theyre paradojically the weapons with worst stats. I always wandered why it is like that, i had never ever seen a videogame were the pro guns are also the weakest ones, except maybe MW2 :frowning:

-I have been and will continue using Dexterity then, thanks.

-I usually get ordnance, grab a weapon off the map or die before I run out of ammo so Ammo isn’t a good choice for me since I’m not great with the Carbine yet.

-I’ve been using the Boltshot, people rush me a lot more when they see me using the Carbine and its very easy and satisfying to run backwards and bait them into a frustrating Boltshot kill.

-This has been a huge issue, in some instances when I get the jump on people they turn tail and run, leading to a -Yoink- ton of assists, which I already have far too many of. I usually try to jump for the last headshot if they try to run but it only works maybe half of the time.

-My strafe is pretty good, I’ve even managed to win gunfights where I don’t get the first shot. I play Recon with claw and always will, I just can’t get used to a new layout when this ones been hardwired into my head for the past 12 years. It works for me.

-I’ve noticed that when facing the Carbine, the little green tracers can really throw your aim off and I’ve been abusing that to its fullest, I’m always going for face shots.

-I play on 5 and am very comfortable with it, I can train enemies pretty well.

-I don’t even try outside mid-range, its horrifically bad and just leads to me running away.

-Eh, no big loss, it couldn’t hit the broad side of the barn after that anyways even if the bullets did travel that far.

Thanks for the tips, I’ll try them out next time I get on. 343 make Carbine 7sk or something, this gun is a peashooting nightmare to use.

Steal kills! Nah, but in all seriousness I tend to out shoot people with it who use the DMR/BR often. The reason why I seem to be successful is because I like to catch people off guard. I usually try not to make myself too exposed and stray out in the open with no cover while I’m using it. When using the carbine, I have to play more of a defensive role and stay behind my team and throw a lot of suppressive fire. Sometimes I can get too many assists, but I also easily waste those weak shielded players out in the open. With the CC, getting the first shot is really important because of the 8sk. That’s why flanking is also another important tip when using it.

The fast RoF on the CC can be disorienting for enemies at times, which is an advantage when facing up against BR users and such. Never attempt to outgun a DMR at long range, for obvious reasons. And as others have said, strafing is a must when in a 1v1 situation with BR/DMR users. Grenades are your friend. They really help lessen the kill time when you drop one at an enemies toes and pop them in the head. Dexterity is definitely a good choice for a CC class too , but I use the Ammo perk just because I feel it’s more important since I don’t wonder off without cover and I’m not caught having to reload.

That’s good advice I’m going to start using it again.

Some very good tips here

A nice tip with pea shooters try using uncooked rice it’s like a SAW. Just put a hand full in your mouth and shoot.

Two words: plasma pistol. Because the carbine’s ROF is so high and, unlike the BR doesn’t lock you into a burst, it’s much easier to get the shot in after the overcharge and, when you don’t, recover for the quick kill.
