Raise the flag
(Win 9 CTF matches)
*Walks into corner slams head on wall repeatedly and cries
People always seem to complain about game creators when their online experience isn’t perfect but honestly, the community and player base is just as much to blame if not more these days. I do multiple objective matches and usually end up losing more then half of them because most of my teammates could be replaced by squirrels or some other small animal capable of moving a joystick and the team would do just as well.
Capture the flag, a game type which can be equal parts enjoyable and horribly excruciating, I’m writing this staring at my game screen still 0/9 at trying to complete my daily. I don’t understand what is so hard to understand about defend your flag, capture the other teams. Most seem more occupied with running into the middle and trying to get kills. while the enemy fc just strolls on by and I mean that literally they just walk on by in some matches and people can’t seem to be bothered to toss a grenade that way or take a few shots or something.
Also I’d like to know if there is some invisible wall outside of the enemies zone spawn because apparently some people can’t walk in to take the enemy flag so they just crouch in a corner staring at the enemy flag like a child mesmerized by the cookie jar on top of the fridge. /end rant
But yea, a lot of the maps also seem less then perfect for ctf,it usually just zerg, grenade spam, grab , and then camp for the rest of the game. If one team is unable to survive the initial charge it’s often game over because it sometimes takes the whole team to grab the enemy flag while they just send in one person to sneak in and stay one capture ahead. I rarely hear talk about ctf anymore so really what’s everyone else’s stance on the gametype.
I hear you brother. it’s a great game mode but really gets under the skin when your pitted against a team of five and two or more of your team mates will just run to the edge of the map and stroll through the game because they think the rest of the team can get the win. that’s my repetitive experience.
Try using your mics, even with randoms, or playing with a party in CTF. It makes you so much more likely to win, because teamwork is so important in that playlist.
If we were to score, either I had to go and the rest of my team defended, or, I defended and the rest of the team went for the flag.
However, to defend and not let them get our flag, we had to be there to guard our flag, all of us.
We narrowly won the game with one point the last 30 seconds of the match, thanks to a single raid I did just at the start of the match with the incenerator canon, and I didn’t even mean to pick up the flag, their base wasn’t clear. Anyhow I managed to get back to the base, score the flag, defend our flag from their rush and then die with no ammo or grenades left. We always had one point more than them thanks to the first raid, and if I had done worse then we would have been steam rolled. Even better was that my team was only randoms and they had a team of four and one random.
I’ve experienced your story as well, too many times, even more annoying when you manage to get the flag halfway through the map and they block you for some strange reason, just sprint in to you and you’re pushed backwards, and that manages to get you both killed. This then leads to a firefight over their flag but once the enemy is cleared none of them wants to even look at the flag.
Someone said early on that the GUI is cluttered with information depending on what gametype it is, that no one can be so dull that they don’t know what’s going on. Well, there’s this saying.
Never underestimate the stupidity of people.
Mapwise, I hate complex, it’s as asymmetrical as a map can be.
I just played a bunch of games with a party of 5, something I can rarely get together, and it was a ton of fun. I was skeptical about the proximity pickup and no dropping, but now I’m sold. It is a lot of fun to have normal movement and a competitive weapon. It’s really rewarding to get flag kills, I found myself going for it just to fight my way out with. It seems like a tough game to go into without a few friends though. I tried it the other day with 1 other and we had little luck.
People loved the 1-50 ranking system many were buying accounts with a 50 online. This was so loved by the community that the great makers of Halo paid close attention to this that they removed the cherished ranking system. Ever since then, since Reach, the quality of game has been poor. In the near future we will get some invisible ranking system. WTF.
This is why your struggling in CTF. I NEVER go in obj games by myself. No one has ranks and either your teammates will be trash or the kids on the other side that are almost as frustrating as when they are on your team. No one has mics anymore. Halo 3 just keeps looking better in hindsights.
For the love of Halo please remove auto-pickup; let us drop the flag; and remove the NAV point. I never thought I would have to ask for this stuff.
Don’t get me wrong I’ve always loved CTF but it’s one of those gametypes that requires a minimum of strategy and common sense that some seem to lack. After making this topic I managed to settle into a decent groove and finish my daily, even still it was so insanely random how I would go from painful match to laughably easy match all because on or two decent guys on the team.
Matchmaking is a gamble, when you go in alone you might get lucky and get a dream team but more than likely you’ll get stoners, self proclaimed gaming gods who can’t shoot straight, and kids that scream non stop during the match as they charge in to die over and over.
I was so overjoyed when I had a good team, lots of kills, lots of medals, lots of points and “most” importantly lots of fun.
I’m still backing halo 4 because even when I played 3 and reach online I still had similar problems (especially reach), every online game tends to have it’s “special cases” running around making others miserable. But damn if I don’t want some new maps or better designs for objective games.
