Capture The Flag - Update

First off, would like to say good work on the forge-test playlist. Much better than I expected and I love seeing old classic maps being at least potentially brought forward. I played CTF on Garrotte for the first time last night. I kept hearing great things but the option never was voted for a while now.

Let me say, I love it. The map is excellent (we need more arena style maps) but because the flag settings are classic is why it is such a better experience! It is much more competitive and tactical than the standard CTF playlist we have now.

Does anyone else agree we need:

  • Touch respawn (the 3 seconds timer)
  • 15 seconds non-touch respawn
  • Flag must be at base to cap enemy flag

brought into the Actual CTF playlist. On a side note, I would prefer 3 to win instead of 5 which is something I noticed that isn’t changed. I know the CTF playlist does this too but the 10-second respawn is perfect (instant respawn needs to go). If I missed a changed in the game type please let me know but I think I covered the main points.

I enjoy CTF the way it is. I might fancy removing the Carrier Waypoint, but the rest can stay.

Old CTF was fine, but considering this is only a 5v5 offering at the moment, the current set-up plays much better.

Expand CTF to more maps, add banshee’s. Flag must be at own base to score. This would be fantastic.

Oh it’s nearly impossible to have your flag return to base. Maybe twice I’ve been able to have it successfully respawn before the enemy team was able to reset the timer again.

Just thought of this, was touch flag returns 5 seconds in previous halo’s? I thought the 3 seemed odd but maybe I’m just forgetting.

I voted ‘No’ because I think these settings should only be applied to small maps. The big ones like Ragnarok should retain the original Halo 4 CTF settings.

At the very least these settings should be adopted by CTF matches on Abandon and Complex. I realize Complex is a fairly big map, but due to its asymmetric design the CTF experience is severely compromised.

If you play with a decently coordinated team its really not that bad. I only play CTF when I have at least 1 friend online (or if it comes up in the forge list), and my win% is 64.

Ragnarok is a giant mess for CTF as it stands though. I’ve yet to play against a team that even tries. Usually they’ll hide out with DMRs/Snipers and just pad kills as we run flags. We’ll win but not without suffering massive negative scores since the enemies don’t care to win the objective. Thank lack of skill system & the DMR in general for that.

Yeah i definately prefer the classic settings. But i wouldn’t be sure about the balance on the halo 4 bundled maps. For one i think that 5 caps is almost too high with the classic settings but this is countered with them being smaller maps. Meaning on maps like complex the classic settings just wouldn’t work. IMO.

I don’t enjoy the 5 cap either personally. I think it would be much better set back to the original 3 caps. I’ve never seen a CTF game break the standard 3 points and higher it to 5 and honestly, I don’t like it.

Instead of teams fighting for the full win I find many usually get 2-3 flags, realize the time is short and just wait out defending. I have done this with my group myself, it’s just not possible to get 5 points in most games.
