343 turned capture the flag into something great in halo 4 and 5. Now we’re back to the days of walking slower with the flag, not having a magnum, needing your flag at base to capture(which makes matches unnecessarily long), and the added bonus of 2 hit melee to kill with the flag.
Maybe make it a one hit kill but other than that I thought it was fine.

I think CTF works really well on this game. I dont know what you mean about walking slow with the flag because you can juggle the flag and use grappleshots to make up a lot of ground really quickly. Having the flag carrier unable to use weapons adds another skill to the game because they need to know when to drop the flag and help slay, or it makes the team that is pulling a flag have to set up to stop the defending team from getting a return. Having flag at home to score makes it better because other wise people just play ratty plays by just constantly pulling the flag when they dont have a set up and ruins the flow of the game. Return to score allows for a more competitive CTF game imo.
It’s following old school rules for having the flag back at base to score, they’ll probably look at the data after a few weeks and tweek the rule so you can score with your flag away.
My biggest issues are the two hit kill and the annoying klaxon sound when someone takes your flag. If they’ve removed the flagnum (thank god) and reduced walking speed then a flag kill should be one hit, no questions asked. As for the klaxon going off when your flag is taken, what the hell were 343i thinking of? It’s so damn annoying, I can’t fathom out the thinking behind it.
I always liked CTF being long games. Whats the point if CTF games finish in less than 5 min? Have no idea what you mean when you talked about halo 4/5. The best games ive ever had was H2, H3 and Reach. Not a lot liked the flagnum it was awful and when you picked up the flag you couldn’t drop it. Being slow walking with the flag was a balance trade off that made those intense games great with heart rushing moments. Zipping around with the flag too quickly is bad for gameplay.
The only game mode I had some enjoyment from was ctf all I can say is make the flag a one hit kill if you’re holding it as sometimes your team mates are dumb af and go for kills instead of objectives so you could have more of a fighting chance if the flag was a one hit kill and would make it more fun to play
I’m wondering what happened to the flag carry mechanic from the early footage. I’d like a chance for us to try that out before it’s tossed…
Are we maybe able to carry the flag on our back if we drop one of our weapons first? Has anyone tried that?
Either way, flag felt great to me, with one hit kill melees being the only change I’d lobby for. Just drop the flag whenever you need to fight back.
I used to hate CTF in H5 (except husky raid) but I had some great matches in this flight (same with strongholds). But that sound when someone pulls your flag and when your team pulls their flag sound the same and is super confusing.
I really think Infinite forces much more teamwork which I think is great. Its nearly impossible to go all Rambo style.
Adding halo 4 made up for not needing the flag at base with needing 5 flag captured and it worked because if I’m gonna have a long match I should at least be able to capture the flag.
