At the end of the week, the challenge and subsequent unlock should be unlocked for everyone indefinitely, regardless of if they complete their challenges.
Between this and more consistent XP, people will stop feeling forced to complete challenges out of FOMO and the gameplay will be a lot healthier.
Ideally per-game and challenge XP will also be modified such that players are incentivized to play well. Challenges should be conducive to proper gameplay. “Kill x with x” challenges should just be for slayer; capture the flag challenges should not have “beat down enemies with the flag”, etc.
Obviously, it should also be easier to play the specific gametype you need for challenges.
But as far as creating a healthier gameplay environment, FOMO challenges that you have to unlock by completing all other challenges are going to be a problem.
Securing zones is one of the most frustrating ones for me right now. I have to let the enemy start capping my zone, kill them or force them out, and then be the one to step inside first to reset the gauge. It’s completely counter intuitive to the natural way the game flows.
Yeah, challenges like that should be conducive to gameplay. It should either be win rounds of x (which, again, pressure players to quit the wrong gametype) or, in that case, “capture OR secure zones”.
Thing is, until they complete all their challenges, due to FOMO of the Capstone Challenge/item, players will ALWAYS feel pressured to play gametypes they don’t want to play, in ways they don’t want to play. Or to quit out if the gametype can’t be used for their active challenges.
Which brings me to the next problem. The “active challenges”. I currently have one that is to get 20 assists in PvP. That means that, in order to unlock the next challenges, I am INTENTIONALLY not finishing off my targets in the hopes that someone else cleans them up so I get the assist.
But, over the course of a week, I would EASILY get 20 assists. So the fact that we have to work on a select few at a time is, again, not conducive to playing well. (I would be okay with keeping the limit on “free” non-premium players, as the BP is only $10 and the removal of that restriction would make the pass even more worth it)
Honestly, the main thing that absolutely needs to go is the FOMO. So I think it should be that capstone challenges are unlocked for everyone (or at least Battle Passers) at the end of the week.
