I feel like it is just too low, even with reinforcements 80 is kinda low. This severely limits the number of strategies one can utilize during matches. We can’t control several armies at once and it just hurts the game in my opinion.
I am sure I am not the only one with this opinion.
Would it be too much for the console to handle, if they’d just got rid of the cap completely? If so, then at least increase it as much as possible!
I think the console will struggle. Maybe not the new Scorpio console, but certainly the basic one.
There was a lot of explosions and effects on the game I was in earlier and it was lagging - not Internet lag, it was screen lag due to the demand on the console.
Maybe if they tweak some of the graphical settings it will be OK to increase the cap.
I have a feeling that its not going to stay at 80, it is just one game mode…and a beta. Don’t assume its going to stay the same
I agree in the real game the population cap should be increased.
Hopefully because it is still a beta the population can cap off at around 120-150, even just 100 would be fine but the more the merrier.
I wouldn’t mind sacrificing the extremely detailed appearance of some characters for a population boost. 60-80 does feel particularly small.
I would normally say it would be just right, but giving that the basic marines now take up 3 population amount and if I remember correctly, there are no 1 population units so I do think that they should increase the cap.
No, but it definitely should be increased. It is extremely difficult to hold every point in Domination with just 60 and an unreliable teammate.
I dont think they should remove the pop cap period i mean if they did that then 1 the game would lag then crash even with the new console and the armies would just never end and get boring after a while

Have none of you all played Command and Conquer on Xbox 360. One of the versions I played (it had aliens in it so it wasn’t Red Alert 3 but the other one) had no population cap to speak of or if there was I never hit it and I could literally “turtle” my way to the enemy bases with defenses so strong that they couldn’t break through.
Of course this would lead to several hour long games but if an Xbox 360 can do it certainly the Xbox One could handle Halo Wars without the ridiculous population cap or at the very least, the ridiculously low population cap.
What’s that, about a 20 pop increase over Halo Wars 1 at max? Or 30?
Halo Wars is by no means graphically intensive. Computationally speaking, I could see where the lag issue would come to play but having a 20-30 increase over a game as old as Halo Wars 1 isn’t that great.
I was able to fill the pop cap with three artillery-type units.
The pop cap isn’t based on console limitations, rather balancing. In a 2v2 game, I’m willing to bet that the cap is lower to help promote communication between allies to coordinate their troops better.
Yeah er, do you realize the troop cap in the first game was 30 to 50? Low wouldn’t describe it…
Supcom 2 had a 200 unit cap, and that was on 360. I think the maps are a little small though to have large armies, bigger maps and balance tweaks would be needed, but removing the cap altogether may not be the right idea.

Did you even play the beta and halo wars?
A marine now costs 3 population points. A flamethrower costs 4 and a tank 6. That’s why the 60/80 cap is so fast to reach. In halo wars you could make armies that were at least double in size than this beta’s. Now I can only have 20 marines, and not even upgraded to ODST.
Halo wars had better graphics and higher population, with a less powerful console. I’m sure they can achieve the same on Xbox one.
The population cap is WAY TOO LOW! I’d certainly say it’s a limitation of the Xbox One hardware, since RTS games can be very taxing on high end gaming PCs, but 60 is too low. In 2v2 skirmish each commander has 60 unit points to spend, so hypothetically you can have 240 units on the map. It should be increased to 80 (in addition to lower the population cost of certain unit types), for a total count of 320 units in a multiplayer map. 100 would be even better!

I dont agree with this part. HW2 even for a beta atleast looks on par with spartan assault which itself is a step above HW1. The character resolutions were awful in the original, atleast I can now tell the difference between a marine and a spartan.
Thank you everyone for your replies!
Another thing I sort of do not favor is that the command powers that grant you additional units, like the ODST, Cyclops, Grunt squad drops, count toward the previously mentioned low population cap.
They don’t offer much of a reinforcements in a battle when you can’t call them in because the enemy hasn’t destroyed any of your units, given you’ve reached the cap of course.
What do you think about this?

Yeah I agree, such a low cap makes reinforcements useless. And the ability to drop a single ODST squad is useless by itself.

It’s neater and the definition is higher, but effects are horrible (cartoonish) and it lacks realism and naturalism. While units are not that bad (except for the horrible animations), I still prefer Halo Wars units design. I think that overall Halo Wars looks better.
But it’s true that the higher resolution might be heavy on the console. However, they could simply copy paste Halo Wars and achieve graphics that would be quite disappointing but not as terrible as the current.

Yeah well would you like deathmatch troop caps? 99 so I’ll admit the Beta’s troop cap is low. By 19… How about more marines, like 41 marine squads! or 51 grunt squads, ok the 51 is a glitch. So I see what you mean.
