I have 2, but when I hover over it to use it it doesn’t select.

Well the events you just have to complete the challenge, that is how you level up, per challenge, not XP based. So no they wouldn’t work and if you didn’t finish the battle pass and were able to use the boost, it still would do nothing for the event.
