I have assassinated an elite from a fall that would’ve been fatal in Halo Reach on at least normal in the campaign. I have successfully assassinated the elite at least ten times and still do not have the reward. I have tried playing on other missions such as the spire jumping from the top of the spire but I die before and can even make it halfway down. I have looked at other forums with moderators locking and acting like the problem is solved by saying it’s not a glitch and that you have to do it a certain way. If this is the case, it has to be the way they have described then it must be random chance. I have watched videos and tutorials, tried to find help to no avail. I can’t unlock this helmet and I don’t believe that it isn’t glitched or broken, pretty sure it is. I have had other issues with challenges where it’ll be to kill enemies with close range weapons in PvE for example and it has melee as an option and it says you can play on firefight on normal so I go into a firefight arcade playlist which meets all the requirements for the challenge, I don’t receive any progression. So I go to custom firefight on my own, still no progression. I then play campaign and I then receive progression. I’ve had plenty of friends that have unlocked this helmet in only a couple of tries and they didn’t have any trouble. I really don’t know what the issue is here. I need some help or explanation here.
I would recommend that you do a hard reset of your xbox and use a wired connection if you can. That way you have the best connection you can have. Then at the beginning of pillar of autumn I used legendary difficulty, sprinted off the cliff, cancel sprint, hold crouch, try to land on the elite (not behind him) and trigger an assassination animation. There is a good walk thru in my signature. It can take A LOT of attempts get this challenge. But some say that if you delete you local saved data and then do it it will unlock. Just understand deleting that data gets rid of all current campaign progresses, your controller settings, and cosmetics set up, and some other stuff. I only recommend that as a last resort.
There are a LOT of people who can’t get it too, of those who got it, most have said its random, it’s weird, keep trying OP and use some tutorials online. That’s honestly the best I could do for you.
There was a issue found where some users who had previously triggered the flag for the achievement, would be unable to complete the challenge. I appreciate the responses. I’m definitely not gonna restart my progress though, I’m a completionist when it comes to Halo armor but I have completed entire seasons and that’s not worth restarting just for a mister chief helmet, I just wanted to know if others were having this issue but seeing as it is I have no reason to try and get this helmet because it is indeed broken
Actually i didn’t see that you said cosmetic sey up and not just cosmetics. But I still don’t trust this. Appreciate it though

Is there an official fix on the way? I really dont want to lose playlist progress again.
There’s essentially nothing to fix here OP. The issue was as I noted above - some users who had previously triggered the flag for the achievement would be unable to complete the challenge, as the challenge works based off of that flag. Clearing out saved data is the way to allow you to complete it, everything else about the challenge works exactly the way it’s supposed to.
If you are on PC then you can backup your progress and restore after you complete the challenge. Xbox users unfortunately can’t do that but as the challenge will be around for a while yet, there’s plenty of time to complete your playlist and do the challenge afterwards.
