I’ve been having this issue ever since Halo 1 anniversary came out on PC, I can change my keyboard and mouse settings just fine but after I save and quit the game and come back later, the keybindings and mouse sensitivity both reset back to default. Anybody else having this issue?
I fixed it if anyone needs help, what I did was go to C:\Users\myusername\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor, and deleted the file GameUserSettings.ini. After that I validated the files on steam and then booted the game. After this I could change the settings to what I wanted and they then stayed saved after I reset the game.
I’m having the same problem and Lost Limboer’s suggestion did not help.
Mine started resetting keybindings every launch after the Halo 2 release/update.
Same issue since the Halo 2 update. I tried running as admin and deleting the file suggested. Same issue.
The only other thing I did that might’ve contributed was I moved the file location to another hdd after updating through steam.
Same issue here since the CEA flight. I’ve noticed that it only happens if I change my bindings in some specific ways. So far I’ve noticed it happens every time I bind ZOOM to Shift. There may be other specific binds that cause this.
Having the same issue.
pretty disappointed in this, as it’s kinda game breaking.
Been having this issue since H2A was added. The above method has not worked for me either. I’ve had a support ticket in for about a month unanswered aside from the typical “your issue is being looked at, we’ll get back to you shortly” message.
Been making me not even want to boot up the game cause of the tediousness of having to reset all my settings every single launch and I’ve got a couple hundred hours in the game until this started happening
Same issue since H2A, have to redo all my bindings for multiplayer and campaign as well
It looks like there is some issue with the game writing to the temp directory. Not sure how to fix it or how to even diagnose it.
I would suggest you configure the controls the way you want, then tab out of the game and copy the contents of
C:\Users<USER>\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor into another directory for safe keeping. Then just paste the backup every time you launch the game.
got the same issue, fatherlynicks suggestion does not work for me
I went and submitted a support ticket as well, we’ll see what happens
Was messing around with the game a bit more and I haven’t found a fix, but I found that all my MCC keybinds still save as long as i dont change any of the halo 2 keybinds. But as soon as I change and save halo 2 keybinds, the next time I launch the game they all reset. So turns out they specifically are causing my keybinds to reset if i change them at all. Added it to my support ticket I had submitted. Also fatherlynicks suggestion of copy and pasting a backup doesn’t work for me at all either.
Same Problem here.
Any news ?
I’ve got the same problem since H2A release
It never happened before when I was playing Reach or CE, and now it’s even reset my Reach binds
Does this only affect the control settings?
If you change the video settings (like resolution or FOV), does that remain saved?
Can you try changing resolution + controls and then exit the game. Do the modified control settings remain?
Did you guys intall the game in the default location? I only used steam for my game and always just installed it under the default dir.
I wonder if you change this when installing either in Steam or Windows Store if the game expects the settings to be saved in a specific directory and so it doesn’t create them correctly if you changed it.
Can you also check if you get the settings saved under C:\Users<USER>\AppData\LocalLow\MCC\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor while the game is running? Can you back up the files in that dir and close the game. Then compare what files are left in the dir when you close the game (assuming any files remain at all)
Have you done a computer cleanup via the Disc Cleanup utility?
That’s my theory at the moment. I don’t think the game has a built-in defect with these settings since not 100% of users are reporting this. There must be some setting that is triggering this bug.
The install user was a non-admin of the machine
The install dir was not the default one
The temp dir is locked by some process or user has no permission for it
The antivirus is doing something?
A windows update screwed something up with the dir (a Windows update was being installed parallel to a game update?)
Do any other games have something like this happen?

Can you please check my post above? Let me know if anything there helps you resolve this.

Sorry, nothing helps, and it is the only Game with thiys bug. I play PC-Shooter 25 years with the same Key-Settings and this is the first Game with that bug. And that’s with Microsoft’s most important franchise. Just embarrassing. No free graphics setting and a “key” feature in all games since there are Pc games does not work. Also, the controls cannot be changed in the Ini, as it is written in Hex. I hope, they delete the bug with release of Halo 3.

Do your other settings such as resolution or FOV save correctly?

Most don’t notice the bug because they play with standard keyboard layouts or only change 1-2 keys.

Yes, as long as I don’t change the keyboard.
As soon as I swap jump with secondary fire (right mouse button with space), all settings are deleted.
