I dont have a kinect so I cant record saying “xbox record that”, but used to have the ability to double click the center button, press x to record. that option is no longer available. How can I record now? I’ve had some sick kills and cant save them now…
Let me try to remember…
(Long videos) Double tap Xbox button and the last option is Snap. Select that and Snap Xbox DVR. Then just record as much as you want. Just be sure to start it. Then after you start recording just unsnap the DVR. Then after you’re done repeat steps and stop the recording. If you just want 30 seconds then do the following.
(30 second videos) Double tap Xbox button and press the X button.
yeah I just found that out, thanks for the reply. I recently also added a USB 3.0 external drive and am running my games from there. Xbox loads much faster now also.
So now when i follow this: Double tap Xbox button and press the X button. I never get the X option to record
Not sure if this is the best solution but this is what I do:
- open up the clip in theater
- go to the “games and apps” section on ur xbone
- open up the “game dvr” app
- select “capture” (I think that’s what it’s called, something like that)
- now game dvr will be snapped to ur screen
- go back to halo
- hit record on the snapped game dvr menu
- play the clip on halo
And that’s it! Kinda messy but gets the job done.
Note: you can only record like 5 min at a time with game dvr, which is rly lame.
Note2: you can edit your recording with “upload studio”. I use this to trim my recordings!

That’s strange and haven’t had any issues on my end. But, then again I just delete all my games I’m currently not playing to minimize space as much as possible. Basically I just have Halo installed lol.

The method I posted about is the faster way and also it for some reason lets you record longer… A lot longer clips. The most I recorded at one time was 28 minutes. It’s a trick I learned about a few months back. I don’t know why it lets you record more this way though.
You can still double tap the home button and then press X to record. I’m at my parents’ house for Christmas, and while I brought my Xbox, I left my Kinect at my apartment. I recorded a clip just last night using that exact method.

This isn’t a Halo issue.
