Can't play Halo CEA with friend

Hey. I really need some help on this.
Lately I’ve introduced my friend to the Halo franchise and we’ve been playing it in chronological order, so we started with Reach and were going to move to Halo CEA and everytime we were loading into the mission he got kicked out, and when he was the host I was the one kicked. We tried Halo 2 and we loaded fine, just seems like CEA is the only one with a problem.
This all happening on PC and we are using the Microsoft Store version, through the Xbox Beta App (and we also tried Companion App)
Thank you

Hi man,

Me and my friend are having a very similar problem - I’ve posted in several forum threads, submitted support tickets, and have heard nothing back. Really frustrating now as we’re being given access to the H3 flight when we can’t even finish CE and H2A!!!

Just to add context, I’ve quoted my original issue below as I think it might be related:

Issue
When attempting to load either The Maw (Halo CE) or Outskirts (H2A) in legendary co-op the game fails to load and either; sends both players back to main menu, or crashes the application.I’ve seen a few threads on Halo Waypoint and the Steam Community but can’t find any consistent solutions to what appear to be common issues with playing online co-op.
From my experience it seems that I’m able to load the map much faster - using an SSD, and my progress bar is either complete, or I load into the start up cinematic, whereas my buddy is still trying to load the level using a mechanical drive. This shouldn’t be an issue, but a few suggestions recommended transferring his game onto an SSD, which isn’t an option.Others have recommended restarting the PC or game - to no avail, or updating NAT/port settings, which are also unsuccessful.
For the record we’ve played every other CE level through and could complete Cairo Station on H2A, after we realised campaign was a no-go we moved onto multiplayer which was fine.Has anyone encountered a similar problem and managed to find a consistent workaround/fix?Every thread I’ve found has either been locked or dead due to no response from 343, etc. Would appreciate any suggestions or feedback, as our play sessions are limited I’d really like to avoid trial and error troubleshooting for hours on end.

I’ve searched through so many posts and couldn’t find a fix, even talked with support aswell and they couldn’t give a fix. For us we crash in the loading bar in the first mission, like you said, my friend is already at the end of the loading bar, even started the cutscene once, while I was in 3/4 of the bar. We both uninstalled the game and I installed MCC now on my C: drive, hopefully that’ll work, and if it does I’ll update my reply.

Did you have any luck dude?

It’s been like 3 weeks now and I’ve had no reply to my ticket - the other thread I raised in the support forum has been buried as well. :frowning:

Check if both of you have the XBL ports open: https://support.xbox.com/help/Hardware-Network/connect-network/network-ports-used-xbox-live

Try sending an invite using the Windows 10 Game Bar <Win>+G

Can you both try CEA MP? Does matchmaking work fine? Do custom CEA games work fine? (Trying to isolate if its Campaign or CEA in general)

Thanks, I’ll try the ports.

Yeah invites are fine and we’ve played MP extensively, I’ve clocked around 2000 games now so don’t think there’s any issue there, appears to just be isolated to the campaign - Halo 2 as well.

I’m just not sure if CP is hosted on dedicated servers or by client-host. Any luck with the ports?
