Since the latest update, me and my friend are completely unable to party up with each other in a pre-game session lobby. We both keep getting the following error message:
> CONNECTION FAILED
> Your connection to the game session has failed, please try again
Both of our consoles pass all network tests, both have open NATs (+ cone NATS in the detailed screen), fast upload/download speeds, and low latency. We’ve both tried completely rebooting our consoles and the games themselves.
Other games like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Titanfall work just fine, and we can both play public matches independently without a hitch. So what’s going on?
I’ve had exactly the same issue! Trying to play co-op campaign it’s failed several times like this. It allowed us to connect in the lobby, then shows the level loading screen, then the blue planet loading screen, then skips back to the main menu and shows this error message. For some reason it seems connected to having skulls on, as my co-op partner and I could connect with no skulls on but certain skulls seem to cause this issue. Such a glitchy mess this game is.

Unfortunately we can’t even get in the same lobby together!

Oh wow, yeah that’s even worse than what we’ve got going. Our only thoughts were to manually quit out of halo, restart the xbone, and as a last resort delete and install again… Even then it hasn’t always worked for us either. I’m gonna chalk it up to yet another failure on the part of 343 then because as you say other mp games work fine for you both. Hopefully they stop focusing exclusively on matchmaking and start sorting out the campaign issues soon.
I can’t believe we’ve had this many updates and STILL have the same issues. How does something like this even happen? I want to return my game but I know as soon as I do, I’m just going to wish I had it even though it sucks.

Are you getting the same error message as me? And would I be right in thinking that this has only started happening recently?
When searching by my self I’ll get searching for players… Players found… Connecting to session… Joining session… Connection failed… Then start over, so I can’t play matchmaking. I know they are working on all issues and trying to fix it but 343 sucks at making games, mcc is a epic fail and has ruined the halo series.
I am having this exact problem. I can join multiplayer games but trying to join a party and a custom game is impossible I get the connection failed message even though i have an OPEN NAT. I had no problems when the game first came out but after one of the updates I’m no longer able to join anyone. I don’t know which update exactly because it automatically updates but it worked initially for me.
OK GUYS SO I WAS EXPERIENCING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH MY FRIEND FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS WHERE WE COULD NOT JOIN UP FOR PARTY MATCHMAKING NO MATTER WHAT WE TRIED TO INCLUDE ALL THE STEPS TRIED ABOVE!
WE ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY SO WE ARE ABLE TO LOG SIGN INTO EACH OTHERS BOX. SINCE THE ERRORS STARTED, HE HASNT SIGNED ONTO MY BOX. TODAY HE CAME OVER AND SIGNED INTO HIS PROFILE ON MY BOX.
AFTER HALO SYNCED WE WERE ABLE TO PLAY CO-OP ON SINGLE SCREEN.
HE SIGNED OUT AND WENT BACK TO HIS BOX AND SENT ME AN INVITE TO PLAY.
WE WERE ABLE TO JOIN IMMEDIATELY AND PLAY CO-OP MATCHMAKING.
HINT**********
SO , TRY HAVING THE OTHER USER SIGN IN WITH YOUR CREDENTIALS THEN SIGN THEM OUT OF YOUR BOX AND RETRY JOINING PARTIES. HOPEFULLY IT IS SOMEONE YOU TRUST AND YOU CAN SWAP CREDENTIALS SO YOUR HALO DATA CAN SYNC! IT JUST MAY WORK FOR YOU!
As anyone else tried this? I have been having the same issue. Open NAT etc. All good and other games and party stuff works fine, but Halo MCC won’t connect us up into a game session. What gives?

Are the caps really necessary? Also, this doesn’t work.
One possible solution (found on reddit, worked for my friend and I):
IF (and only if) you have the preview program, REMOVE the wireless display app that came with the preview. It messes with network settings and confuses many games, halo MCC included!
Uninstall that app, restart Halo MCC and try again!

Im doing that now removed wireless display preview app waiting for install ughhh lol
I am having the same issue aswell. Me and my friend are trying to connect, our NATS are open, our network tests are fine. I’m running a wired connection and every time he tries to join my xbl party or mmc lobby it comes up with the same crap, unable to join, try again later. I can connect to multiplayer matchmaking fine. FIX THIS I WANNA PLAY MY GAME FFS. AT LEAST PC IS ON POINT WITH FIXING BUGS.
So, my brother and I just tried to play and we’re having this exact issue. We can party up just fine, but we can’t join each other’s game session for Halo MCC. According to this thread, the bug started in late 2014. It’s now April 2017 and this bug STILL isn’t fixed! Hopefully 343 will get this fixed soon. If this is how they treat their loyal fans, then I don’t know if I want to spend any more money on their games
