So I’ve installed the MCC on my Shadow PC. Which is a cloud PC if anyone wasn’t aware. After a shutdown, when I came back on to play MCC I can’t open it anymore and instead get given this message.
“Halo: The Master Chief Collection can’t open because it is offline. The storage device might be missing or disconnected.”
It’s super frustrating when a whole community is screaming for help on a Microsoft flagship product, yet all we get is silence. The -Yoinking!- team that is in charge of social media and forums need to pass this along to whoever can resolve this problem, since it seems to be wide spread and also all over Reddit too!
I was having all kinds of problems exactly like yours, but updated Windows 10 with the optional X-box related updates that are in the update center. That solved my issues. Make sure your systems are up to date.

How did you fix it? I’ve had to reinstall Halo every time this error popped up. I checked windows updates from within the update section in W10 and also in the Microsoft store. Nothing has worked other than reinstall.

I’m not saying this will specifically fix your problem, but the issue you describes matches mine exactly. Make sure you have all the optional stuff… Windows will tell you you’re up to date because it ignores things that aren’t mandatory for everyone. I don’t remember what update it was, but it was Xbox related to the changes they are making in integrating the two ecosystems.

Thanks for the advice. I have all updates installed and no joy.

So that problem returned for me. Updating didn’t help the second time around. I just managed to fix it again. Try the following:
Open Windows Settings > Apps > Select “Gaming Services from Microsoft Corp” > Advanced Options.
Scroll down to where it says “Reset: If this app isn’t working right, we can try to repair it”
Click on the “Repair” button underneath.
That did it for me… let’s see how long this lasts.

Thanks. My issue came back again after I thought I figured it out… and for a while I just didn’t bother anymore. Just read your reply and checked Halo and it was magically working again. So frustrating.

It has to do with Microsoft’s crappy windows-xbox integration. They have blurred the lines between the two platforms and caused all kinds of licensing and integration issues. I have the same problems with Mojang now. Anyways it works again for me, but for some reason the halo icon in windows is literally a dark square. I’ll live with that in a second if the game works heh.
