Am I the only person who feels like the good ol’ days of noob wrecking in Reach BTB or any other playlist for that matter are gone? It just seems like this whole behind-the-scenes trueskill system that they have in place makes it so that I am ALWAYS paired up against try-hard enemies (especially in 4v4 TS). Don’t get me wrong, I like a challenge occasionally, but constantly having to try my -Yoink- off to win is really making this game seem more like a chore than a fun past-time to me. I dunno, maybe it is just me. Is it?
The game matches you with people of skill equal to yours.
Definitely broken.
no, i am not playing against more tryhards. my problem is right after i kill someone he insta spawns right behind me before my shields even start to recharge.
or that right as i’m about to get a frenzy in banshee some guy who has been hiding in his base all game and gotten 6 assists gets a laser.
or right when i’m about to get my overkill in wraith i get emp’ed from 6 directions.
or people who can’t aim and have to use automatic weapons now all the sudden have extremely powerfull spray and pray death machines.
or everyone is hiding around corners with their pocket shotguns they spawn with.
if anything the players seem worse then previous halos.

Woah guys, we got a guy on the internet trying to be a smart -Yoink-. Obviously you didn’t understand a word I said.
I see people complaining about fighting total noobs, but when I went on to play yesterday… Whoa, the few hardest matches of CTF I’ve ever had. I pretty sure that Trueskill thing must be working.

It is this. I have started using automatic a lot more now, than I ever did because they seem to be able to beat me with ease compared to the older Halos.
Regardless of the behind-the-scenes skill system working or not, it seems like all the noobs come onto these forums and moan about how much they hate the game.
Whereas the decent players are sucking it up and playing a game they enjoy.
OT: I like having a challenge now, but something more social would be better at times too.

Hmm really, because all the people that I have talked to that play the game and hate it are either MLG pros or semi-MLG. And I never even said that I hated the game, I was talking about this one aspect (although I do hate it.) Please learn to read and stop making assumptions especially when they are false ones.
I’ll swap skill levels with you, OP
I’m so sick of idiots of the lowest calibre both on and off my team, game in, game out.
I know I shouldn’t be playing them and I’d LOVE some better competition.
Having come from playing a game series on another platform w/ no Trueskill to one with it, I have mixed feelings about it. The biggest problem I have with it is that I never know if I’m really improving. In nearly every game I do about the same and I see the same types of players. Whereas in the old game series I used to play I got relentlessly slaughtered at the beginning but by the end I was doing fine and the randomness of the match ups added a lot of variety. I knew exactly where I stood in the game. You could have one absolutely brutal game, then some fairly casual ones and then you could just clean up in others (here cleaning up is going like 25 and 3, whereas there cleaning up was having an unbroken 57 kill chain). If you had a brutal game you knew why because you could see the other player’s ranks. The randomness served as a source of novelty.
With TrueSkill, I don’t know what’s going on, my K/D doesn’t really mean much, and my win rate, which is a dominate factor, does not really feel like it’s in my control. On the other hand, I understand that they have a serious problem w/ new people playing some pro and just quitting because it’s no fun to be destroyed constantly. It’s fine to use it on some playlists, but have a playlist without it would be good as well.
For me a ranking system would also be great, but only if you create a separate play list with no TrueSkill. With all those statistical machinations going on in the background, you have no way of knowing how it’s monkeying with people’s actual rank as compared to others - with a system with as much variability and complexity as Halo 4 I can guarantee that there are unknown and unintended consequences of using this statistical model in the background (I have a minor in mathematics and have done a fair amount of statistical modeling, albeit in finance). One consequence I believe I’ve observed already is that it may segregate not only players but playing styles. If you are the type of person who sticks with your team in TS and kills from a distance your K/D and win rate tend to be higher than lone wolf rushers and your K/D and win rate are the dominate factors in TrueSkill. I have a lone wolf AR/plasma grenade rusher friend and I have noticed that in watching his games fewer people work together and fewer use the DMR, whereas in mine lots of people do. My games are DMR fests and his are lone wolf AR/Suppressor/Plasma grenade sticking fests. I’m quite sure there are other strange, unintended things going on as well. If you didn’t have TrueSkill you may be forced to deal with a greater variety of playing styles. So…simple, have some playlists with and without it.
K/D has no bearing on your TS.
Only thing taken into account is winning and losing.
Yep - you’re right; I mixed up Halotracker’s number rating w/ TrueSkill. Thanks for pointing that out.
