Can't join people by their gamertags alone anymore

Before the season 7 update you used to be able to join people by simply searching for their gamertags, now I only get this https://i.imgur.com/wTVL6U8.png

I have looked at my xbox settings but there’s no settings that I’ve seen that would block people from joining you or you joining them

Help please

EDIT: From what I understand now is that you have to be friends with people to join them, there isn’t any way of opening your lobby up to anyone…

This has become a major problem for halo customs discords as it renders them basically useless so it would be nice if 343 would fix it.
