Yesterday my friend and I were playing Halo Wars 2 co-op campaign just fine, but this morning I try to join his game and it comes up with the error message:
“Unable to join: You have a different version than the squad leader”
What is the problem here? Neither of us have gotten any updates and we have done nothing different to yesterday. Is there a fix for this, why is this happening? We just want to be able to play the campaign!

There was somesort of an update as when I went on this morning the game told me updated version and restarted dunno if it was an update to their servers or the game itself not sure if that’s whats causing it try what Plastic Hassle suggests if that doesn’t work must be something they have done at 343’s end I would assume?!
Had the same problem. My brother tried Solo War and got an update. The game restarted just after and it worked. (xbox version).
Always check your NAT and server connectivity and have him check his.
I’m having the same problem, my mate’s on XBOX and im on PC.
We see each other on the friends list in-game, and can chat etc, but when trying to join i get a message saying that the versions are different than what he has, and wont let me join.
I’ve checked the XBOX app, as well as the game, and i have the latest versions… i know there was a big 9.9gb patch that came out, my bugs are all gone but i dont recall actually having the update done, but then again i guess it did it in the background or something.
Any one have any ideas??

this happened to my friend as well, my friend did not update his game. so updating should work. if you have all updates than uninstall and reinstall

uh, as I remember it, i’m pretty sure it does. that was one of the big talking points upon it’s release if I remember right

This game supports Play Anywhere, which allows you to play on Xbox or PC and your save game data should migrate, however you cannot play across platform with one another. What I’m trying to say, is that if you are on PC, you can only play with other PC players, Xbox can only play with other Xbox.
Me and my friend are both on Xbox. We both quit the game and then restarted it and nothing…the same problem keeps happing. It didn’t matter If I invited him from the game or invited him from the party. I didn’t find it necessary to uninstall and then restall the game. Can’t seem to find a crystal clear answer on what and why? I might’ve missed something but I’m not sure. I’ve traveled the Seas of the internet from websites to videos and nothing so far. Maybe its a Halo Ghost spooooky lol.
