Why cant we just wait like 2-3 months and then pay $20 and get a decent map pack. A year after the map pack was released they could give it for free to everyone. Thoughts?
Divides the community.
Well see 343 is trying to cater to both sides of the community, the causal and competitive. Is what I believe is the free updates should be more along stuff like more customization and small updates where dlc will only be for maps. This way casuals are happy and the competitive side will get good maps do to developers having extra money to give the map developers.
You can’t buy a map add a friend that has built a map!!

Except it doesn’t once they go free.
im not gonna buy a map pack. I’ll buy req but not a map pack especially when it would be holding hostage things i should have had with my initial purchase. what 343 is doing is the best solution.
why do you think the maps will somehow magically be better? Is it better because you’re getting nickel and dimed?

and that happens when? a year or more after release if ever.
Yeah for all the faults of the req system I hope that any other game with a strong multiplayer component does the same.
Halo is really the only game that I get “super” into the multiplayer (I’m more into single player action/adventure/rpg) but I will take an optional microtransaction system over feeling split from others and having the experience suffer because of it.
Mass Effect 3, Gears, Cod, battlefield, halo reach, halo 4, halo 3, god the list goes on in terms of games that I suffered because I didn’t buy or my friends didn’t buy the map packs or stuff like that.
Halo really settled into a perfect situation with perm/single use unlocks, and two seperate play spaces, but regardless of other games’ ability to replicate that its so short sighted for people to not give H5 credit for this factor.
no offense, but i feel like 343 really slacks off on these maps. maybe if they were getting paid for them, they’d have more motivation.
i dunno maybe they’re just not good map makers, maybe it’s because all the maps are super stretched out.

Which almost NEVER happens. Name one game in recent years, aside from Titanfall, where the video game’s DLC became free.
Paid DLC, season passes, pre-order bonuses… when the hell are you people going to realize how much of a poison they are to the gaming industry?

Well put.

And microtransactions are not poisonous? Seems legit.

Not the way 343 is doing them.

Microtransactions, IN GENERAL, is poisonous. Saying that one company does it better, is just saying that my cyanide tastes like cherry instead of death.
Wait 3 months for three maps, like Halo 3 days.
Or get a new map every month for free, equalling out to the same amount of maps at the same rate. Again, this option is free.

I wouldn’t consider all microtransactions poisonous. Destiny’s, for example, just gets you emotes. Is that bad? It’s really your choice to buy them. What’s bad is if you can’t earn them in-game and they affect the gameplay like that one pack that was $10 but you couldn’t use req points to get it. Really halo’s microtransactions just remove a very small portion of the grind, that doesn’t seem poisonous to me.
I didn’t mind map packs, but I would never pay $20 for one.
$20 for a map pack? Which would then be released a year later? What reason would people have to buy the pack if it comes out free later? And if you ask me, map packs are pretty much just microtransactions.

Well, obviously, we have very different mentalities. I do not think that microtransactions should ever be in a AAA video game, as it solidifies the fact that game developers and publishers are greedy sons of yoinks. The games are $60 a copy, and Halo 5 already made $400,000,000+ in opening week sales, so 343i and Microsoft are not strapped for cash. There is no real reason for microtransactions to be in the game, other than to satisfy the greedy corporate overlords.
And yes, I actually do prefer paid Map packs, but I wish there was a way to preview them to determine if they were any good. Kind of like Battlefield’s Community Test Environment. And, I think that the packs should go free after 4 months. My opinion, of course.

A year is a long time to divided the community.
