Can't Hear Teammates In Party Chat

Hey guys, read through the forum and found a bunch of chat issue threads, but didn’t really see one that matched my issue so figured I’d ask. I’m having an issue with party chat. My chat works perfectly fine in a regular game just on team chat, however as soon as I enter into a party I can’t hear anyone and I don’t believe they can hear me. Then if the leader takes it off party chat, everything is fine.

To answer some common suggestions: My NAT type is open, my controller is completely updated, I have restarted/rebooted my console and modem/router. Anyone else have a suggestion or a solution?

That’s strange. When you are in the parties, does anyone show as “Connecting”?

Nope, everything appears as normal and all of the other party members are in the game and chatting with each other. I’m trying to think of a setting that would affect this and I’m stumped.

Ah, okay. Have you tried unplugging and plugging in your microphone when this happens? Another possible solution is restarting the controller while still in the party.

This sounds like an Xbox Live issue, so this may be beyond my scope, but I’ll help you if I can.

Unfortunately have to step away for a while so I’ll give those a shot when I get a chance. Might be worth noting that it isn’t just a one time issue, been happening for months. I just don’t do a lot of party chats, but it is definitely a nuisance when I get roped into one.

Okay, I’ll be the one to ask.

Are you sure they didn’t mute you in the party?

Because if they can all hear each other and stuff and game chat works fine for you…sounds like they may have you muted.

Yeah, definitely not it. In fact it becomes annoying for other people when I’m in a party for the reason of communicating and I can’t communicate. Like I said, this has been a months long issue across multiple partys I’ve been in, so unless I’m the most unpopular guy in the Halo universe, I don’t think I’m being muted

I’m thinking of two possibilities:

  • You might’ve accidentally switched to game chat while in party chat. An easy way to tell is by checking your gamerpic in the party chat menu. If your emblem appears as it should, you’re in party chat. But if it’s darkened out, you’re in game chat. - Your headset might be damaged or faulty. If it’s got a standard audio jack, test it on a computer / mobile device to see if it works or not.

Go into settings on xbl and make sure they are set to your preference.

I had this issue in the past. My wife went in to the XBOX setting, and changed everything. Took me a while to figure that out, but it is working great now!

Played some Halo 5 with my nephew earlier today… He could hear me but I couldn’t hear his mic feed. Must check that party chat thing…
