Cant Be Competitive

I started playing this game with the DMR as it is what i enjoyed about reach. But in reach it was balanced, you had to pace shots worry about your bloom. it is not the case in Halo 4. now i admit i enjoyed using it as much as everyone else i ran it all the way up to master. But now that i hit there ive tried using other guns such as BR/Carbine, and it is impossible to even try and take down a DMR. I am a slightly skilled player, but by no means a pro. But if im not suing the DMR it is at least twice as hard to get kills it needs a nerf or other guns need buffs. It has become quite ridiculous and hard to get other commendations up when all other players use is the DMR and snipe from across the map.

I have a (probably unpopular) solution. Remove the DMR from loadouts, and instead spawn it on the map or with ordnance drops. It’s not the power of the weapon that bothers me, it’s that in big team games, LITERALLY EVERYONE EVER just picks up a DMR and uses it exclusively for long range kills. Look at Ragnarok. In Halo 3, securing the laser was ESSENTIAL, and after that holding the hill in the middle was very useful. Everyone had BRs, so super long range wasn’t REALLY an option, and everybody had to push up. When I play Ragnarok I rush the laser at the start, but nobody ever challenges me. I then deal with the enemy vehicles, but all the resistance I get is many DMR shots flying by and forcing me in to cover. I wouldn’t mind if a few people stayed back at base, but when every single person is doing it it just gets a bit dull. So, yeah, remove super long range stuff from loadouts.

You know what gets me about anecdotes like this? They almost exclusively take place in this fantasy world where Halo 4 is played 1v1 like a fighting game and the outcome of these specific encounters reveals some kind of final weapon balance.

Very few comments about weapons in the game invoke Halo’s team-based nature, the only ones being vehicle arguments (too many people using plasma shots, or not enough people using plasma shots). Nor do these stories relate moments of respecting a weapon and backing down.

Taking it at face value (to be fair to the story teller), I’d swear they all merely run around and get into fights regardless of the situation or what the enemy is holding. There’s even posters who flat out admitted to just running and gunning - while complaining about being outplayed.

Just an observation.

Anyway, yeah, DMR is great at the range game. I use it for my ‘Ranger Ops’ loadout, high profile stuff like taking a certain part of the map or taking out a sniper.
