Canonicity of Mark V and ODST armor?

I love the fact that 343i is going to add the Mark V and ODST armor on August 20th but I just had a few questions about the canonicity of Mark V and ODST armor being featured in Halo War Games due to MP in Halo 4 being Canon.

It’s 4 years after the Covenant war and our spartans wear canon GEN2 Mjolnir Armor specifically for Spartan IV’s, so what’s the point of them wearing two outdated designs like the Mark V and ODST armor. The Mark V has already been replaced by the Mark VI and Mark VII respectively, yet somehow there is still a Gen2 version being added that will be canon, how is that?

Don’t get me wrong I’m going to be wearing the Mark V armor as soon as it’s out. (Just with the undersuit was black.) But why is it in Halo 4 canon wise?

Ps. The Ricochet armor looks so ugly, would have looked better if they designed the Helmet after a Revo Speed and not a crappy schutt… I mean its the future helmet tech has gotten a bit better since then. I’m biased though I did spend 300 $'s for a Revo Speed for my football season this year so whatever.

It’s a simulation. They can wear whatever they want.

Soldiers are dying and respawning, and you’re worried about the realism of using outdated armor?

What’s more, it’s multiplayer. Nothing should require explanation other than it looks cool and people like wearing it.

343i made multiplayer Canon soooo… Yeah there should be an explanation, the same armor is worn is SpOp’s which isn’t a simulation.

> 343i made multiplayer Canon soooo… Yeah there should be an explanation, the same armor is worn is SpOp’s which isn’t a simulation.

Yet despite that Spartan Ops isn’t a simulation, you can still die and respawn. What’s 343i’s explanation for that?

You can have 4 Master Chiefs in Campaign, explain that! xD

Im pretty sure most could care less about the whole “Multiplayer is canon.”

> Im pretty sure most could care less about the whole “Multiplayer is canon.”

This.

Most probably saw 343i’s explanation for Red vs Blue coming too. 343i have brought nothing with making MP canon. They’ve only limited their design (there are no Covie maps!).

They should have left the canon to the player. In other words, players decide what is canon to them in the MP environment. They never needed someone to identify it for them.

Is there even a reason why red faces blue??

There ARE explanations OP.

> Is there even a reason why red faces blue??

Because blue faces red!

Pretty sure there’s no canonical reason for them to be used by Spartan IVs in the War Games simulations but I’m still glad they’re adding them

Pretty sure the info given on the recent bulletin states that the Mark V suit is still a GEN1, so you’re pretty much slapping the original suit on an S-IV.

The ODST suit was improved as the Air Assault permutation, but still sees use. The one in Halo 4 is GEN2, according to the bulletin.

i think whats important about this, is that they were never intended to be in the game at all, these are being added at the majority request of the fanbase.
imagine if they said they weren’t going to add it because it doesn’t fit canon

“A lot can happen in four years…”

It’s just a video game…

Well you see after the chief came back everyone in a fit of Nostalgia started wearing classic mark V armor to honor him.

Yeah, no. I’m guessing you’re not the most invested halo fan?

They could have done covenant maps, training in enemy maps is good. They could have done playing as elites, training as the enemy like the flood is good, however it’s not soley that.

Yes they are canon… Several spartan-IVs requested the MJOLNIR mark V armour so they updated some components stuff. As for ODST, since there were many ODSTs who joined in the spartan-IV program, they got this familiar armour that’s optimized for what it did in non MJOLNIR form.

I believe that, just like with the outdated Mark VI armour that’s available to Spartan-IVs, the Mark V and ODST armours received upgrades to be compatible and up to par with GEN2 systems for Spartans who wanted to use them.

I mean, some Spartans-IVs used to be ODSTs, and would be much more comfortable using an armour system that they’re used to. Even though the MJOLNIR variant of the ODST armour isn’t 100% identical to the set used by ODSTs, it would be far more accommodating than a completely new set of armour.

As for the Mark V, it’s the exact same situation as the Mark VI system. Some old-school Spartans wanted to use the old-school armour.

Ok, this makes so much more sense then… Well, I’m gonna deck my SIV in all Mark V and all black armor as soon as I can. Thank you as an invested fan and as someone that cares about the universe it was nice to know about the canon of the new armors because it didnt really make sense to me before.

You’re quite welcome! I’m glad that I could help out!
